This year through 20 games Guillen has 1 hr in 79 at bats that means that based on a 550 ab season he will hit 7 homeruns <@12 mil a year thats 1.7 mil per homer> How many will he hit this year if healthy?

Huskerbred78, I feel your pain. I am tired of seeing Guillen flailing away at anything withing 5 feet of him.  Is he pressing too much, trying to make a good impression and putting himself in a funk?  I don't know and it's hard to judge him so soon.  The Royals are struggling in the hitting department right now, and I don't know if you can say how many HR's anyone on that team  is going to hit right now.  Hopefully the offense will come around!

Jose Guillen has been a HUGE bust this year. It's still early and he has the tallent, but he hasn't been impressive on either side of the ball, at least not in my opinion. I've seen him miss read balls in the outfield, and seem lacksidasical in his effort in trying to get to some balls that could have been caught.

I thought that it was great that the Royals could get out from under the weight of Mike Sweeneys big money with the end of his contract, but you never had to question his effort. He just couldn't stay healthy.

I'm not sure where I heard/read this, but is Guillen traditionally a slow starter? I also want to point out that Guillen has never hit .300 and has only  passed the 100 RBI mark once.  Then again, he's a career .272 career hitter.  In seasons when he played in 100 or more games, his lowest batting avg is .253.  So I'm just playing averages here, but it appears that he will snap out of it at some point this season.  I am in agreement that he has been very disappointing so far.  Hopefully he can step it up and be the $12 million man that the Royals need him to be.

I've never been crazy about the Guillen signing from the get-go.  What's his career best in home runs?  25 or so?  well thats about 20 if the K is your home ball park.  He's never hit for a gaudy average and those rbi's hes posted ???   Well he had the MLB's best leadoff hitter,  Ichiro usually standing at 2nd or 3rd when he came  to bat.  Now we know he has juiced in the past.  Being off the juice, don't you think his numbers/ability may start to decline now?  I've never considered Guillen any more than an average major league outfielder with a good arm and decent pop.  I don't think that warrants $12M a year.  I would just as soon seen the Royals start the season with Huber or Meier in left field, left Teahen in right and put Guillen's salary go towards player development or towards a mid-season acquisition if the Royals got hot and happened to be in contention.

Huber is off to a great start this year, but he only has a handful of at-bats. Even Emil Brown looks like a better option than Guillen right now.  I will reserve judgment on Guillen until the all-star break.

To answer your question, here are Guillen's highest HR totals:

2003 - 31 HR
2004 - 27 HR
2005 - 24 HR

It's easy to point to the juice after looking at those numbers.  In his defense, however, he did come up with 23 last year.  He's had a few years when he's struggled to stay healthy, but it seems that his numbers have been fairly respectable when he does.  I don't see him as a 25+ HR guy this year.  I think KC would be lucky to get 20 out of him, especially with his slow start.  If he could just bring his average up a bit, he would be so much valuable to this team because of where he hits in the lineup.

This guy is a BUM. He's been on 9 teams in  11 years. Every time there's a guy on base this guy either k's or grounds into a dp. I know Bonds is a douchbag, he's still way better option than Guillen

Thanks to all, fives for all. Now im feelin a bit of something else about guillen as well that i think should be said. he saunters everywhere, suanters to the plate for his ab, saunters to first on singles and routine groundouts. basically just trots to first on routine pop ups. with that said, i hate to bring up past players, but i remember a game in the early 90s', Royals versus the sox in old comiskey. george brett was batting and popped a fairly deep routine fly ball to the center fielder <lofton at the time i believe>   who settled under the ball easily about 15 feet in front of the track. By the time lofton settled under Brett was already rounding second at full <and i mean full> speed. Lofton dropped the ball and brett rounded 3rd and scored easily. I know it was Brett, i know it was the past, and i know it was a maybe twice in a career chance but its the daggone principle. Run like hell every chance you get cause you never know what your gonna do for your ball club! These "no minors" stipulations in guys contracts have made them lazy. I Think that they should take a look at these contracts and reevaluate after watching a guy play, baseball would deffinitely  a lot more exciting  if guys hustled for there job like they used to. thanks for the posts!!
