dblake, I agree with everything you have to say, except for the last line of your post.
I do see that we have a high amount of fair-weather bandwagon fans. But the reason for that is because we have more fans of the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, and Bruins than most any other team in all of the four major sports... except maybe the Yankees. Because we have such a populated fanbase inside of New England, and nationally, we have a large amount of bandwagoners... who aren't true sports fans in my opinion.
To say that we are all fair-weather fans is an extremely dumb and ignorant thing to say. Just like Mike Bibby's comments were.
Unless you live in New England, you just don't know how it is, and don't have the right to say jack... that is, unless you want to make an ass out of yourself.
Kudos to the people on these boards that look like silly donkeys right now for thinking that way.
And to the owner of this thread...
Speaking for myself... prior to the Kevin Garnett trade, and prior to our dismal season last year, I was buying Celtics' merchandise like shirts, shorts, and a Paul Pierce jersey, and have always worn them proudly... including wearing them throughout last season when we just plain sucked.
Also, the last time I bought Patriots' gear was in 2000 when the Pats went 5-11.
We have more fans than most franchises do, and more bandwagoners because of that. But we still have more lifetime die-hard fans than most, and that makes Boston fans some of the best fans in the world.
You don't live here, so you don't know how it is in New England. You, like Mike Bibby, don't know what you are talking about. Ignorance is not bliss.
Come to New England for a while, then talk about us as being bandwagoners.
