Okay, I will post the question, and you guys answer in detail. Everyone will vote based on how good your answers are. No one vote until the members have given their answers. If one hasn't posted their answer.

Question:

How important has your bench been in your team's success this year and how important will it be in the playoffs?

Our bench is not only deep when healthy but very important in our run to the playoffs. Last year J.R. Smith really struggled in the latter part and was bricking every 3-point shot possible in our series against the Spurs. He was in George Karl's doghouse big time and you would have wondered if he would ever get out of it. But this year he has really caught on averaging 15.5 PPG since March. He is still streaky at times but can shoot from anywhere. Eduardo Najera is probably are most energetic bench player. He won't wow you with stats but consistently plays at a high level. He always gives 110% on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. Linas Kleiza reminds me a little bit of Kevin Love. Can play down inside but can knock down the 3 on occasion. He obviously doesn't have the hype that Love does but puts up consistent numbers at 11.1 PPG this year. At 6'8 245 he is a little smaller then Love but you get the idea. Nene when healthy is our best bench player. Last year he really caught fire averaging roughly 16 PPG in April of last year. But with the diagnosis of Testicular Cancer it took him out for almost all of this year. But luckily it was not spread throughout the rest of his body and could be contained. And because of that he was able to make a solid, and healthy recovery. He is still not what he once and probably will not see too much time in the playoffs. But once he is healthy again we are going to be hard to beat.

Throughout the past few years injuries and suspensions have plagued our team. Kenyon Martin was almost out for 2 years with Micro-Fracture surgery on both knees. Nene tore his ACL, recovered, then was diagnosed with Cancer a year later. Then Camby was out for a month or 2 at one point with a wrist injury. Then of course because of the Nuggets-Knicks game of last year Melo and JR both got suspensions. Right now we are about 90% healthy with Nene still recovering and AI with his fractured finger (even though he plays through it anyway). When you think of the Nuggets people automatically think Melo and AI. Yes every time they step on the floor you automatically think 20-30 points are coming from each. But what about everybody else? When you watch the game tomorrow see how the bench players energize the Nuggets, giving them an extra step then there competition. Playing the Lakers is no easy task with them being compared to the Lakers that won the championships with Shaq. but in the crowded West anything is possible.

The Lakers bench is directly responsible for the team's success and ascension to the top of the loaded western conference, maybe more so than any other team in the league. With Andrew Bynum's quantum leap this year and at times dominant play, to his injury, to Lamar Odom's inconsistent play, to Pau Gasol's addition to the team, to Fisher's hot and cold shooting, there were only 2 constants for the lakers this year...Kobe's play, and the bench coming in and maintaining leads and many times extending it. Without the energetic, inspired and selfless play of Jordan Farmar, Sasha Vujacic, Ronnie Turiaf, Luke Walton, Trevor Ariza (before his injury), and Vladimir Radmanovic (before Bynum's injury when he came off the bench), this lakers team wouldnt have been nearly as dominant. Couple that with the fact that key laker players kept dropping like flies at different times this year, and these bench players were required to take on an even bigger role in the team's offense, in some cases even starting games, like Ronnie Turiaf did when Pau Gasol got hurt. Its always been the mark of a Phil Jackson coached team to strengthen the bench, playing the backups at key moments in games to help them develop a thicker skin in the playoffs, even if it cost them a win or 2 (laker fans hate seeing this happen). The other aspect of the lakers bench that makes them maybe the most feared bench in the NBA, is the fact that each player brings a different talent to the table. Farmar's ball handling and outside shooting, Radmanovic and Vujacic's marksmanship, Turiaf's hustle, rebounding and blocking shots, Luke Walton's great court vision and understanding of the triangle offense, Ariza's perimeter defense, this bench has got it all, and could probably beat the Miami Heat this year (sorry heat fans )...

I'm out
