Angels place Kendrick on the DL

Middle infielder Sean Rodriguez was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Kendrick, hitting .500 in 36 at-bats, missed his fifth game in a row on Friday night after straining his left hamstring running the bases on a cold Sunday in Seattle. He earlier missed three games after getting his right thumb jammed by a pitch from the Indians' Fausto Carmona.

The Angels are in Boston and Detroit next week, and the weather doesn't figure to be favorable for Kendrick's hamstring in either town.

"Your instincts are to bust out of the box, and he'd be at risk right now doing that," Scioscia said, explaining why he was reluctant to use Kendrick as a designated hitter even if he couldn't play in the field.

Maicer Izturis has done a solid job defensively in Kendrick's absence. With two hits on Friday night, Izturis lifted his average to .140.

Rodriguez, who turns 23 on April 26, is off to a hot start at Salt Lake. A right-handed hitter with good size, the Miami native is batting .333 with four homers and 11 RBIs in 13 games, slugging .711 with a .464 on-base percentage.

Yeah im just pissed cause i have Howie on my fantasy team! LOL.  But i think this one shouldn't hurt too much.  I just wish this kid wasn't so prone to injury.  Cause i honestly believe( there may be bias in this but i dont think so) that Howie Kendrick is one of if not the best contact hitter in the game.  We knew since he came up that he was gonna be great.  His whole time in the minors he never hit below like 320s or something.  And even last year he was great when he was playing.  This year he's proved the same. Up until he got hurt the first time this year he led the majors in hits.  500 in 36 at bats?!?! thats just amazing.  I'm excited for him to come back and i hope he stays back.
