That's because it wouldn't make sense for anyone else to move positions. Except for Braun, of course, who was both willing and ableIf this is the last week of September right now, how would Brewer's fans be looking back in retrospect on this position switch ?

Prince is not far off, and compared to braun is much closer to being zoned in than Braun. Braun is swinging at a lot of bad pitches while we see Fielder taking pitches and actually earning walks. The reason I say Fielder is off a bit right now is because I have not seen him with so many check swings before. He has had a lot already this year.

At this point I see the two things as completely unrelated.

Cubsbadgers, I know I'm right on this. It does not matter who hits behind you if you're Albert Pujols or Barry Bonds...or in this case Prince Fielder. You get your stats either way.

Another prime example - Ryan Howard - who hits in front of Pat Burrell. Burrell has K numbers that make Hall look like a contact hitter.

Don't you think its odd that there was so much talk about how Hall's switch to the outfield affected his hitting, yet, while Braun hits in the .220s? Its very early in the year, but I'd be interested to see what comes out of folks mouths if he's still hitting this low come mid-may.
On an unrelated note pertaining to the original post: If Brau continued to hit this poorly, I desn't matter where he hits in the lineup. 3rd- May be the last out and leaves the Fielder leading off, or 4th- Prince still gets pitched around

If Braun's defense didn't affect his hitting last year, why would that change this year? He is clearly capable of keeping the two aspects of the game separate.

He also walks about 100 times a year, hits about 30 HRs, and drives in 100 RBI...you can't say that about Hall

Well yeah. He kept his offense and defense so seperate that he had the worst fielding % per number of chances for any 3rd baseman in 90 years.
But I get the gist. It was merely a speculative point of whether there would be any talk. I'm guessing that if he does continue to falter, some reporter, somewhere, sometime, will bring up the position point. I wouldn't know whether or not a change in postions from the one he's played his entire life will affect him at all. I would suspect not with his "confidence" in himself.

Ryan Braun has not played third base all his life, and he has said that he was never really comfortable there (I know, we never would have guessed it). In any other player, i.e. Bill Hall, I would agree that his position change must be the reason for his slump. But clearly as Braun showed last year his defense does not impact his offense.
