Defense: Devils need to get rid of Colin White, Andy Greene, Vitaly Vishnevski and Sheldon Brookbank and sign a tier 1 defensemen like Campbell, Wade Redden and Barret Jackman. Spend the money Lou, spend it. Colin White has been a liability out there and Andy Greene isn't with 10 cents on the dollar right now.
Offense: Get rid of Brylin, Gionta and Pandolfo (if Pando wants more than $1mm to resign him) When he was hurt for 20 games, we proved that we can survive without the Maddog Pando line. Sorry Sarge, but you have lost a step and there are 500 other NHLers just like him for less money. Gio is not what he was anymore and not worth 5 mill a year.. (Defenseman have figured out how to stop him in front of the net under the new rules).
I think we need to sign Jason Smith from Philadelphia. He would be a great fit. Maybe go after a Cheechoo, Marleau, Jokinen or even Afinogenov from Buffalo. Aside from Jokinen they are all $2mm to $5mm players. I'll give Zajac one more year but he needs to be the offensive horse he can be next season. If not, then trade him at the deadline next year.
Bottom line, our defense is suspect at best. Marty needs D in front of him that can play better and Lou should focus on good D in the offseason.
