I added this to a who's the next coach thread, but figured it might be easier to find here:

As you've probably heard, Providence will hire Keno Davis of Drake. That's the son of Dr. Tom Davis who coached at Boston College, Stanford and Iowa among other stops.

Here's the scouting report from an Iowan:

Keno had such a successful first season at Drake because his dad laid the foundation by recruiting the types of players that fit well in a small, private university with high academic standards. That doesn't mean Keno is unable to do that on his own, but dad did give him a head start when he took the job at Drake.

I think Providence fans are going to need to be patient while Keno recruits those same kinds of players out East, but if you hang in there, I think he's going to bring Friar fans the kinds of results they hope for.

As a Drake Bulldog fan, I'm disappointed he decided to leave after only one year. His dad came out of retirement and took the job in Des Moines to warm up the seat for his son. Now that Keno's leaving after just one year, it destabilizes the program once again.

Until this fantastic season, Drake was best known for a track meet, so I think the school would have given Keno a few years to work out any struggles there would have been. This is one of those rare situations where the school was likely going to be more loyal in struggles than the coach turned out to be in success.

I can't blame Keno, though. He doesn't know what the future would bring, but the present is offering a job at a Big East school for four times the money. I'd leave, too.

That's my take.

Good post.

As a PC fan I am looking for stability in the program and a coach that can restore our name in the Big East.  Due to the successful of the confernece and well known coaches PC will never be a top program but I thin kDavis can bring us back up.  Like his defensive minded style and think he may be able to bring in sme good recruits.

Welsh was a nice guy... but that was it.  I never liked the character of most of his recruits and he was not a good X and O guy.  I am willing to be patient with Davis, as well as hope he stays a few years.

Keno & Chris Davis will turn the Providence program around if the basketball players are willing to work together and play together not one person is going to be the superstar...It takes the whole team and that is Keno's philosophy...He is a great coach and great working with young adults...Maybe dad had some influence but he didn't coach the team this year at Drake and how was there record, I believe better than Dad's...Keno has taken a lot in but will do great for Providence....
