"he didnt say the best. he said one of the best."
Thanks for the statement. One of the only people who responded to the thread with common sense to read it.And if someone else would've read the post it also said...
Clippers May Have The Best Frontcourt Next Year.
Anyway to dispute some of your arguements about comparing the Lakers frontcourt with the Clippers is hilarious.Your frontcourt isnt what carries your team,it is simply Kobe Bryant.Elton Brand is a far more superior power forward than Gasol could ever be.Do note that Elton Brand is a better rebounder, post player and defender, and shooter. The guy averaged 20 and 10 almost every season in the NBA including his rookie season.Gasol only averaged 10 rebounds a game for one season.Gasol is a good supporting cast player while Brand can lead any team. You see how far Gasol got in the playoffs each year right?Oh yeah just swept. At least the Clippers made it to the semi finals where they lost in game 7 to the Suns.
Bynum hasnt even proved anything yet so I'm not sold on him either. He averaged 13 and 10 but even Al Thorton averaged 13 and 5 his first season in the NBA.Bynum has this one semi breakout season and everyones talking as if he's one of the best centers in the league.Im not sure 13 and 10 can be considered that much of a breakout season. In that case Andrew Bogut averaged 14 and 10 without the luxury of playing with the best player in the game.Sure Bynum is a great presence on the court but he wasnt even better than Chris Kaman this year.Maybe he will be better than Kaman because he is very young but are we sure?Only speculation right now but I like the kid though.
And Odom is a guy I love to watch play. He's so dangerous at that power forward position to the point where people dont even realize the Lakers are playing small ball right now.I'm sure the Lakers may consider trading the guy because they want Bynum around as the future and theres no telling if Odom will succeed at the 3 spot.Even though he is a natural 3 its obvious he's better at driving on bigger defenders and also beating them to long rebounds.I'd love to see him in a Cavs jersey playing the 4 next to Lebron.Too bad we could never complete a trade like that as the Lakers dont need anyone on our garbage roster.Anyhow Odom is the player as far as right now I would covet the most out of the Lakers frontcourt.Gasol is a good player and having the best playoffs of his career(cough, playing with Kobe Bryant). But before that he made it 3 times and only won zero games and barely averaged 8 rebounds.
The other arguements of Boozer,Okur, and Kirlenko can be considered the same.Great player in Boozer however he's been known not to be a tough defender,Okur is soft defensively, and Kirlenko is completely useless on offense.Workhorse on defense though.Cant necessarily say they will be better than the Clippers.Chandler,West, and Stoyakovic isnt bad at all. However Chandler is pretty fragile(like Gasol) and David West or Peja arent known to be defenders.Chandler isnt much of a scorer or post threat either. He's young and plays with tons of energy and he could get better.West could get better too but Stoyakovic is just a shooter and nothing more.
So when you do the comparisons the Clipps are right there in the battle of the frontcourts.Kaman and Brand are probably the best defensive combination.Add Thorton and if he improves and the Clippers are right there in the thick of things.Thorton is strong and athletic and could be another Lamar Odom type player.Just my opinion though.Of course they would have to go out there and prove it.Actually right now the best frontcourt is Perkins,Garnett, and Pierce.
