Well, we keep waiting for the naming of the new coach.  Larragna was a prime choice but accepted the extension at GM.  Who does everyone think the next coach will be?

I would love to see Travis Ford take the job.  He would do fine in the Big East and will have Providence back to winning.  Take the job Travis.

If he does not we are looking a a new low point in the program.  Most of the rumored coaches either have jobs or already turned us down.

I was not high on  Ford at first, but the more I read, the more I like.

I am a Kentucky Alum. Travis Ford would be a super coach for you. He was a smart player that make his mark more on his wits than skill. We knew he would make a good coach somewhere, someday. When the Kentucky job came open last year, there was some mention of him here, but he was just too young and unproven. He has another year under his belt now. Just within the last few days, we were not sure why he would turn down interest from LSU, a major SEC school, to stay at UMass. Maybe Providence can lure him with your conference. If you get him, you will like him. Good luck.

ford staying put. smart move on his part. He wants to upgrade, providence would be a downgrade from his current job. He has a much better chance of making the tourney and top 25 at umass than at prov.

I disagree.  Coaching in the Big East is always an upgrade from the A-10.  Exposure if nothing else is that much greater.  That being said, if he is being looked t by Kentucky, LSU and those likes, then I agree he is staying put so as hopefully get one of those jobs in the next year or two.

Next two candidates on the board are O'Shea and Hobbs.  Any thoughts?

It is going to be someone out of the blue. The talk about Larry Brown being interested I hope is just someone wanting to start a rumor.

i think that it will be an asst coach from an ACC or SEC school- I just don't know who.

As you've probably heard, it is Keno Davis of Drake. That's the son of Dr. Tom Davis who coached at Boston College, Stanford and Iowa among other stops.

Here's the scouting report from an Iowan:

Keno had such a successful first season at Drake because his dad laid the foundation by recruiting the types of players that fit well in a small, private university with high academic standards. That doesn't mean Keno is unable to do that on his own, but dad did give him a head start when he took the job at Drake.

I think Providence fans are going to need to be patient while Keno recruits those same kinds of players out East, but if you hang in there, I think he's going to bring Friar fans the kinds of results they hope for.

As a Drake Bulldog fan, I'm disappointed he decided to leave after only one year. His dad came out of retirement and took the job in Des Moines to warm up the seat for his son. Now that Keno's leaving after just one year, it destabilizes the program once again.

Until this fantastic season, Drake was best known for a track meet, so I think the school would have given Keno a few years to work out any struggles there would have been. This is one of those rare situations where the school was likely going to be more loyal in struggles than the coach turned out to be in success.

I can't blame Keno, though. He doesn't know what the future would bring, but the present is offering a job at a Big East school for four times the money. I'd leave, too.

That's my take.
