You can argue for whoever. Knight, Coach K, Dean Smith, Wooden or any other of your choice, but keep these stats in mind:

1- Made ever tourney! All of 'em

2- Made every Sweet! All of 'em

3- Eight Titles!

4- Eighteen Final Fours

5- Next year: 1000 wins! ONE THOUSAND!

6- Every player that has suited up for Pat has played in a Final Four!

7- The most important one, especially if you are a parent, every player to play for Pat has a degree! EVERY PLAYER! Say it again, EVERY PLAYER!

That is my Seven Commandments, nothing but class, all you can say about Coach Pat Summitt. You can hate her or love her, but NO ONE and I mean NO ONE is a more complete coach than THE COACH!

I do not know this for a fact, but I would be willing to bet that she has had offers from other NCAA schools to coach men and possibly the NBA. When it comes to winning, people look for a great mind, not at a body. That said, Pat will never leave (the real) UT.

One other thing to add to the above list, Pat has already been inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.

Congrats Lady Vols

wow if that's not the most Fact-less post I've ever seen bud8dalejr....

There is no evidence she has EVER been even CONTACTED by an NBA team first off.

2ndly the only college team that would even contact her about it would be a "scrub" one at best.  It would be too much of a Circus for any school to want.

3rdly she's not going to give up here monopoly on a sport like she has now.  Top highschool girls always want to go to Tennessee, Conneticut, or.......thats about it, if they dont get in to one of those schools they go to a LSU or Stanford or DUKE or UNC.  And thats one of the many priveleges of being someone that has coached for as long as she has.

If she did leave Tenn she would actually have to start over from scratch and start RECRUITING MEN... and lets face it folks who in their right mind would want to start their collegiate career playing for a 1. WOMAN(who I believe have never coached MENS D1) 2. A not so stellar college ( as no storied program would want that kind of circus attraction)

Lastly Mens bball is completely different from Womens bball.  Sure they all start with bouncing a ball up and down the court and putting it in a circular hole attached to a backboard..but thats where it stops.  The ball is different, Players attitudes are different, there is MUCH MORE COMPETITION, There are more than 4-5 perennial powers, and plenty of more differences between the two.

Bottom line, as sexist as it sounds, She's a great Bball coach... But she coaches women's basketball not men's.  I'd easily put her 20th or worse behind some of the great men's coaches on the greatest list.

This was the most ridiculous thing I've ever read.  If you can coach you can coach....period.  Doesn't make no difference to the sex.  That would be the same as saying UCONN's coach would never make a good womens coach.  You adjust to the talent.  I coach youth sports at its highest level and I can't believe you wrote this junk.  Hedges, Picks, Box-n-1, 1-3-1 press is still the same wheter a women teaches it or man teaches it.  Did you say 20's worst...lol  So that's how you rank coaches.....lol  What I've discerned from your e-mail is that you've never played sports in your life.  I'm an avid sports fan and whatch the women's tournament just as I do the men and Pat Summit can flat out do-it.....PERIOD!!!  The last I checked the men finally beat a women in the 3 pt contest, they lost 2 yrs in a row prior to that.  Now how does one explain that!!!

Yeah, except that its not all about coaching.  Its about controlling you players, making them listen to you, I guarantee that no male player wants to play for some old, wrinkly woman when they can go play for a Bruce Pearl, Coach K, Bill Self, Roy Williams etc.

BDWATER:  you didnt understand my post.... she is a great coach.... but for womens basketball. Men's is totally different which is obvious if you WATCH BOTH or have coached  both.  Mens and Womens BBALL are almost two different sports.  YES the women beat the men in the 3point challenge up until this year but I didnt say that women cant shoot, i said that they PLAY DIFFERENTLY.  I notice you didn't mention the Men winning the DUNK contests ever since it has been around.  Why dont women dunk ?  Is it because they lack the upper body strength or the lower body strength do be able to jump that high and dunk it as well?  Its one of the biggest differences between the two sports it adds a whole different Dimension to the game.  Its the same as if you had one league with a 3 point line and one league without a 3 point line. Two the same but two totally different sports.

Pat Summit will never leave Women's college Bball purely because of the fact that she is doing so well in how she coaches/teaches/etc in womens bball.  If she made the jump to NBA/Mens college BBALL She would struggle and struggle at first and then hopefully catch on as she LEARNED how much more of a FAST pace/recruiting/talented game it is.  Even if you just look purely at the rules you would how womens college bball is different:  No 10 sec half court violation, smaller 3-point line, etc., etc.

I think it's fair to say that she is one of the top 3 all time @ her sport ....but then again Mens and Womens college BBALL are not the same.

I am a Duke fan and I have enjoyed watching the women play especially a few years ago when they were consistently a number 1 rated team.. but like I said you can defintely tell the difference between a Men's game and a Women's game.
