From a Memphis fan, congratulations.
Memphis outplayed Kansas for 38 minutes, but Kansas way outplayed us the final 7 and deserved to win the game. The steal and 3-point shot changed the momentum drastically.
This one hurts though...all of us Tiger fans thought we had this one in the bag. Godd night.

99 Tiger how did Memphis out play kansas for 38 minutes? If I remember kansas was up by 5 at the half so in my mind Kansas out played them for that 20 minutes. Then Memphis outplayed them for the first 17 minutes of the 2nd half then Kansas control the final 3 min of regulation and 5 min of overtime. So in my mind kansas outplayed them for 28 minutes and memphis out played them for 17 minutes.

Memphis certainly played a great game, so it was unfortunate for them to lose.
But let's be realistic here, Memphis did not outplay Kansas for 38 minutes. That is backed up statistically and from watching the game.
First half Kansas played a tiny bit better. But in all honesty, it was just a back and forth, even half. Kansas shot better, better rebounding, more points, and held Memphis' stars at bay. The only reason it was still close was because of the turnover differential.
Second half, Kansas was still a bit better until about 13 minutes left to go. That is when Rose took over and Memphis was the better team. In the final two minutes (and then the 5 minutes of OT), Kansas was the better team.
Kansas was the deserved winner, but Memphis has no reason at all to hang their heads. They played a wonderful game and should be proud.
It truly is a shame that more championship games are not like this one, with both teams playing about as well as they could.

I appreciate this Memphis fan being classy in a hard fought game, but to say that Memphis outplayed Kansas for 38 minutes? Was he watching a different game? This game was played great by both teams the whole time. It's ridiculous to say that Kansas was outplayed...Rock Chalk Jayhawk!!!

"Memphis outplayed the Kansas for 38 minutes"....????
Check the stats, 99Tiger - Memphis held the lead for how many minutes during regulation? OK, now how many minutes for KU?
Memphis had it in the bag, alright...but only between the 0 - 2 minute and the 38 - 40 minute mark.

Not to rain on your parade or anything . . . But when exactly did those 38 minutes occur? It wasn't until 8 minutes to go in the game that Memphis started its surge to take its lead. Until that point, the game had been very close with multiple lead changes & with Kansas slightly ahead most of the time.

That's a pretty strong statement to say that Memphis outplayed Kansas for 38 minutes. As I recall, KU led by 5 at the half. KU and Memphis traded baskets in the early portion of the second half and KU only trailed by 1 point at the 8 minute mark. Memphis then dominated the next 6 minutes and was up by 9 with around 2 minutes left. After that, KU took charge with the steal and the three. But if you watched the same game I did, it was a very evenly played game throughout. 9 points was the largest lead that Memphis had and KU never led by more than 7.
Thanks for the congrats, but I would be hard pressed to say that either team dominated or outplayed the other. It was by far the best title game I've seen in a long time. KU vs. Syracuse was a great game as well. KU lost that one at the free throw line so I can appreciate your pain.

This was the meltdown that I referred to before the tourney started. Of course, I expected it to come against Pittsburgh, but Mich St took care of that and then came out and played scared against Memphis. Memphis did step up and play unbelievable basketball for 3 games, but they ran into another team tonight that had just as much talent. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, the difference in these type of games is coaching. The better coach won tonight.

A Memphis fan is fessing up. Props. I am a UT fan...so a win for Memphis would have looked good. But the Rock Chalkers deserved this one all the way. They hit almost all of their free throws...Memphis did not. Damn...shame. Kansas also hit one of the biggest shots ever. Chalmers was calmers...props, props, props.
I have not seen a game this good...since the Superbowl...may all games be this good. Competitive. Hats off to Memphis...and Kansas.

I guess it's hard to try to be objective. I wonder if KU fans would be making assertions that they lost rather than Memphis won had it gone the other way? Played better for 38 minutes......? Really?

bksballer...how about this. Memphis outplayed Kansas THROUGH 38 minutes. We had a 9-point lead through 38 minutes...which is what I was referring to. Good grief.
This still isn't any easier to swallow this morning.

That's pretty sad that I come on here to offer congratulations and the jayhawk fans feel the need to nitpick my wording.
