Seems like we heard all of these same things when Kansas played Illinois a few years back, and how did THAT turn out?

Some coaches just have other coaches' numbers ...

Williams had Knight's at Indiana and later at Texas Tech.

I guess we'll learn tonight if the same holds true for Self and Williams ...

But you know the old adage: defense wins championships!!!!

Well the past teams were also great defensively. I still believe in the age old saying the Defense wins Championships, and i think that is what will happen this year. All 4 teams are great at making turnovers, getting steals, and forcing you out of what you want to run offesively. However the 2 best defensive teams in my opinion is UCLA and KU. I think the quartet of Darnell Jackson/Darell Arthur/Sasha Kaun/Cole Aldrich will keep fresh bodies on Hansbrough. Kansas is so deep in the front court its hard to get this team in foul trouble.

Bad coaching also loses championships which Roy has done.  My friends and I watched him for 15 years at KU make numerous coaching mistakes where we wondered if he was the right guy.

In example, 1998 - playing Rhode Island in 2nd round.  They have Lamar Odom and Catino (spell?) Mobley.  They are so much faster than KU especially with 2 of our guys hurt with ankle and groin issues.  Good ol' Roy plays man to man the whole game with no zone!  Why?  Because that's what we do!  This team had Paul Pierce and Lafrentz still but couldn't get past the 2nd round due to his unwillingness to change and adapt.

Roy has gotten better, but Self is better now than Roy was at Self's age.

By the way, Roy isn't the traitor.  Dean Smith is!  He treats his alma mater like a red headed step child!  Roy must come home?  Whatever DEAN!!

What's up Seven Year Hawk, that is a sick Chamberlain jersey.

You bring up a good point about coaching, but I think it's the Final Four itself that has Roy's number. Yeah, I know he won a few years ago with Matt's players, but he's never won with his own recruits. Self clearly has less pressure on him to win this title, and that will be an advantage. How much of an advantage will depend on how long KU can stay in the game.

If KU keeps this game close into the 2nd half, look for ol' Roy to show some nerves, and look for the UNC players to really tighten up. I've seen it before (1991, 1993, 2002, 2003). Trust me when I say ol' Roy may be snake bitten by the Final Four.

That being said, its gonna be an awesome game tonight. People can argue whether defense or offense wins championships, but in the end, the team that executes best on that given night is the team that wins championships. That's why the greatest teams with the greatest talent, and the greatest offenses/defense, don't always win champsionships.
