IWanttoBelieve

I'm sure you know this, but it's easier (never easy) with any addiction, if you focus on replacing your  obsession with something positive.  Just trying to focus on doing without will only make you crave it more, and make sure your mind stays on the object of your addiction.  Part of this certainly has to be deep, intense, and consistent Bible study.  Starting with the gospels and epistles (letters of Paul) usually is most productive.

A second thing is to have a strong small group of believers who are mutually committed and accountable to each other.  When you are "trying to make it through the night" they need to understand and commit to being there- either physically, or by phone.  Make sure the people you bind yourself to "have the bark on", are not easily put off, or offended, and will get in your grill when you need it.  This has been one of the strong points of AA for years.  You may want to check them out.

Do not go Lone Ranger on this.  You will not make it by yourself.  I know this is hard for some of us to do, but don't be too proud to get help.

Father, I lift up this brother who needs Your strength.  Detoxify his body, mind, and spirit.  Overshadow him with your power, love, and peace.  He has known little of these, and the hole that he is trying to fill with booze is a bottomless pit.  Fill him with your Spirit.  Feed him Your Word.  Bring those into his life who will give him the tough love he needs and really wants.  Let him know Your Love.  I pray this is Jesus' Precious Name.  Amen.

Ephesians 5:

15Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is. 18Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. 19Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, 20always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

21Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

I Want to Believe.

Papa has the right idea.  Church is for getting to heaven.  AA is for getting out of hell.  I go to church but AA is the treatment for alcoholism that works.  I am now a member of church again thanks to God working through AA.  If not for that I feel strongly that alcohol would have taken me by now, or at best I would be drunk every day, miserable and struggling to hold onto my job, and what would be left of my sanity.

Surrender to alochol today, go to a meeting and make a decision just for today to let God run the world.  At least that is what has worked for me.

Don't be a stranger if you are struggling with alcohol, quite a few posters have went down this road.  God's way is more work but more rewarding.  The devil's way is pleasure now and compounded guilt later.  You can make it.

Prayers, please, for the family of Randy Pausch who passed today. If you've never seen his "Last Lecture", please look it up on Youtube. He was a remarkable man.

You can do this, each day you make it is a victory.   Father touch IWTB, give him strength daily to conquer his addiction, he can do it thru you, in Jesus name, amen.
