This is good news for Davidson... But for Curry this could be a huge mistake. With the performance that he had in this tournament, he surely earend himself a first round pick. Not likely high enough to be a lottery pick, but higher then it otherwise would have been. NBA teams would be all over him right now. Does he really think he can play the same way next year? Teams will lose interest, people will forget about him. Unless he can average 30 points a game next year he's making a mistake. I wish him luck and it is great to see a player not be greedy, but I think he is making a million dollar mistake here.
So, he isn't greedy and thinks he can better himself by staying in school. Good for him. We should praise the kid instead of criticizing him. The NBA draft is never a guarantee and so few players are picked. Hope he can push his team even further next year and get a higher seed.
Given the values his parents appear to have instilled in him, and given the fact he's a student at Davidson, I suspect he has priorities other than jumping into the NBA draft at his first opportunity. He's obviously a smart kid and knows he's not ready for the NBA, yet. He might still leave after next year, but I wouldn't be surprised if he stays all four years and gets his degree.
zonacat, I wonder if you know who Curry's dad is. It is Dell Curry, who made MILLIONS in the NBA. Curry does not need the money, his family is rich already. I am sure he and his dad discussed his ability and where he needs to improve. As the author points out, Curry is only 6'3" and needs to be able to play point guard in the NBA, and he did not get to play this position this year. Therefore, next year he needs to improve his ball handling skills to make himself a well rounded player. IF, yes IF he improves next year and becomes not only a great scorer but a great ball handler who can play the point, he will only increase his value. And if not, WHO CARES, he is already rich, and will get a degree so that he can be something, instead of a PUNK like Isaiah Rider who left early and just recently got arrested.
I couldn't disagree with you more. I don't know if you watched the last 10 minutes of the game against Kansas, but Curry continuously made immature, unexperienced mistakes that he can iron out with another year in college. If he were to make the jump into the NBA now he would be a young kid with a lot of potential, but he is not of NBA caliber yet. Another year of college can only help him (barring the risk of an injury), and when he leads his team to a possible Final Four appearance, NBA teams won't be ignoring him.
I don't know man, you could be right, but this is the same curry that averaged 21 points in 34 games last year, he can shoot from the college three point line effectively and as long as he continues to do so, hell always be a top scorer that this level, with the talent in the NBA however, I am not sure he will be as effective and probably will not get much PT, he is the same built and jump shooter as Durant with less size, and you have seen Durant struggle trying to adjust. A smaller Curry would only find it harder trying to fit in the PROS, college was a good choice for the kid, maybe he'll get a chance to go the BIG dance next year.
I agree, he should go now. Remember the kid at Tennessee was going to be an All-American this year, his scoring average went down 7 points, and he's out of the 1st round.

Nah not at all, the kid avg.'d 25ppg before the hype and he's going to improve, my question is what makes you think he'll be any different than most college players who get better every year especially after a confidence boosting season like this. Look at him, he's scrawny, just think about once he puts on some weight and optimizes his game.
Obviously, none of you people recognize the value of a degree from that little liberal arts school known as Davidson. It's an incredible place to live/study for 4 years, a truly priceless experience. Curry will be a far better person for having stayed his four years. a "great" NBA career, may await him, but will only last 5+ years. the rest of his life will be far more enhanced by the degree than by a few years in the NBA.
