"To be able to see the work of the Miami Project pay off by being part of Kevin's recovery, it means the world to us," Buoniconti said. "To see how far the research has come, it goes to show you how close we are to actually finding a cure."

Maybe Buoniconti misspoke, but the only "cure" for spinal cord injuries of this type would be a total ban of the conditions that led to it-football itself.

That said, I'm very happy that Everett is recovering.

Actually, Buoniconti knew exactly  what he was saying. Spinal cord research has obviously made huge strides. With new areas like stem cell research especially,  science is now confident and very close to complete repair of the spinal cord. In fact, I have recently read articles that stem cells have actually repaired spinal cords in lab animals that had lost all functions of the extremities(hands, feet etc.) So its not far fetched to hope that in the next 10 years, spinal cord injuries will be as treatable as say, a broken arm.

I think you misspoke

If the only "cure" is to ban the conditions that lead to it, then banning football is just the start. You would have to ban all other sports, driving a car, military training and pretty much every other activity in life that has the potential for a collision.
