Walters Picks Texas; Defense Dominates Final Spring Scrimmage
Mason Walters, the state's top offensive lineman and one of the best ones in the natiom, picked Texas Saturday over Texas Tech, and said the reason was "the winning tradition and the way the coaches treat the players."
Walters, 6-6, 280, 5.0, of Wolfforth Frenship, which is a suburb of Lubbock, the home of Texas Tech, said he had talked with former Longhorn TE David Thomas, "and he told me the way they treat you when they are recruiting you is the way they treat you after you get here."
He also said Texas has "great academics, so I can play football for one of the top teams in the country and get an education at one of the best universities in the country." He said he had "about 16 scholarship offers."
