The Reds cut Mike Stanton, and with that, took a 3.5 million dollar hit to their payroll. So, in your opinion, was he worth it? Or maybe it would have been wiser to save the $$$ and send him to the minors or just keep him on the bench all season?

that question is kind of confusing, but the Reds were going to end up paying Mike Stanton $3.5 million no matter what.  the only way out of it would have been to trade him to a team that would want him and his salary (and who would want stanton for $3.5 mil?).  if someone else is going to be able to outplay stanton and help our team, i dont want stanton hogging that guy's roster spot just because we owe him more money.  and if we keep him on the bench all season, it's the same as cutting him.  in short, i have no regrets, or rather qualms, about the decision that was made

1. He has rights to refuse assignment to the minors. He refused.
2. Having him on the team and not using him accomplishes what, besides creating a very dismal morale situation.

Just blame this all on bad management or at least a mistake that was avoidable only if Stanton could pitch. He can't, which is why nobody wants him in a trade.

The obvious answer is, NO.

The obvious mistake was GM Wayne Krivsky signing a 40 year old beer-bellied pitcher to a 2 year deal in the first place.

Could be worse...the O's just ate an $11.9 mil sandwich for Jay Gibbons.

Krivisky won't be signing guys like Cromier and Stanton anymore.  Guys over 37 don't need a major league contract.  Most pitchers hit their prime in their early 30's and this is when you need to unload the bucks not when their pushing for social security.  To bad there isn't stipulations in the contract for being a HGH user then again you have to prove that he took it in a court of law and that would be way to much work and money to do that.

Peace out fatty Stanton

Stanton was worth that- 7 years ago or so.  This was a bad deal from the beginning.  Take the hit and move on...
