I can't wait to see the kid take the reigns this year. I think he is going to have a very solid season. If he can put out 2/3 the production he did at the end of last year it would be solid.
That being said, I hope they can work out a solid #2 before the season and groom him to be the starter next year. In my opinion we can't go on with a new starter every, or every other year. We need to get a 4 to 5 year QB. We have them in the program now, but will we give them enough playing time to not be completly green? You don't always get lucky and have a guy step up like Ganz did last year. Mop-up duty or not we need to get the next QB on the field before we HAVE to get the next QB on the field.
It would be nice to have a legit 4 year starter but you can't just bench the best player just to give the younger one playing experience for years to come, if there at the same talant level that's a different story but if not then you have to go with the best player.
You are so right. We have really been lucky with QB's so far. This is not the way it has been in the past however. I don't remember BC ever seeming to groom a quarterback. Just stick 'em in if you need them and then yank them when the regular could go back into the game. That, I feel is playing with dynamite and will come back to bite you in the ---- eventually. You are also correct in that we seem to have the talent at QB. This I hope is a real priority with the new coaching staff.
I think Ganz has a lot of talent. I have said before that I find it hard to believe that he finished second to Keller. Should have been the other way around. I was not at all impressed with Keller. I didn't think he lived up to the hype of BC. In fact he should have been at best our 3rd QB. I think though that he was promised things if he would transfer to NU.
I'm glad you brough that up, those early in the season blowouts are extreemly important to have in order to groom the younger QB's, with BC as coach, those blowouts were rare and even when they did happen he kept the starter in.
i think ganz will come on and play very well, he is a stand up guy, and he seems very smart. what he does isent pretty, but it seems to get the job done.
the thing about last year was that keller couldnt move his feet after he snapped the ball, so it made it hard on the offensive line to protect him, and the play never works out as planned, so he always seemed to screw up the play.
We are very lucky to have Joe on this team, yes he is very talented, but you can have all the talent in the world and fall flat on your face, Joes best quality is his desire to win his leadership and this will be displayed in his play, and also to the other QB.s on the team as well as the players around him and that will bring there play to a higher level. these types of players are rare, if you have been watching the ncaa basketball the north carolina team the player hansbourgh, Roy Mason remember him, Kansas couch a few years ago, talks about his player like this, why he is so good is his desire to win, when he gives the team a day off this kid goes to the gym and shots 500 baskets and works on his game this is desire to be the best he can be and this has elevated his game to a higher level. this is how I see Joe Ganz.. barring injury to Joe I believe the offense will have a good year and if our defense improves like it should under BP, I believe we will contend for the big twelve north title this year.
Joe Ganz really impressed me last year in his starting debut, and I don't think I'm going to be disappointed this year eitherI agree. I was rooting for him the whole time Keller was messing up, and when he did come in, he was on fire. I see him goin at least 20 Touchdown passes, and 10 rushing touchdowns. That would be awesome! LETS GO BACK TO THE OPTION!
