Ok...I know the title is dramatic. Let me debunk some complaints coming from Seattle.

  1. Complaint: Taxpayers shouldn't pay to fix up an arena for a bunch of millionaires.
  2. Answer: Whoever owns the arena should fix it up. The city shouldn't pay to recarpet your dumpy house. The owner shouldn't pay to fix up your sagging arena.
  3. Complaint: The city of Seattle was expected to pay $500 million. OKC only had to pay $150 million!!
  4. Answer: Per Capita, OKC paying 150 is more than Seattle paying 500. Besides, OKC's arena was already pretty nice. Key arena is a total dump.
  5. Complaint: In 10 years, no one in OKC will care about the sonics because they suck, they always lose.
  6. Answer: Maybe so, why not make money for 10 years anyway. Are you even aware of the money your team is losing? New owner, maybe there will be new results. Look at what Cuban has done in Dallas.

That's about it for now. I really do feel for your situation in Seattle. But, cmon! you know it makes sense to move a team that is losing millions. OKC is a good fit.

This reminds me of what happened in Charlotte.  The owner took our Hornets and now we're stuck with the crappy Bobcats and a real nice arena.  Maybe Stern will put an NBA team in Seattle after the Sonics move.

Wow another ignorant post from someone in OKC on the situation

1. Since when have the taxpayers owned an arean you shmuck? I dont go to the keyarena and kick up my feet when Im done with work. The owner owns the team and city owns the land so yea the taxpayers well help contribute but why should they fund the whole bill? No answer huh?

2. OKC only had to pay 150million because op property values you idiot. Sorry but people arent fighting over living space in OKC while the city of Seattle is short on land. Sorry you had to knock down Joes burgers to build an arena. The 150 was only to add more luxury boxes for Clay Bennett and his fat cat homies. Key arena isnt a dump since Im sure you havent been there.

3. The team probably isnt losing as much as he claims it is. Its always easy to fudge papers and make it seem so. Movie studios do it all the time to help with budgets and costs and gain sympathy. By the way if your city is so great for basketball how come the Hornets when to New Orleans?

We arent pissed at the city of OKC were pissed off at rich owners who put a crap team on the floor, hike ticket prices and then get mad when people dont come to games. Howard Shultz and Clay Bennett are to blame. Great you guys get a team but dont try coming into the SEATTLE SONICS message boards. You dont have a team yet plus tell me how nice that stadiums gonna be if the people of seattle get lucky and these worthless politicians we have decide to get off their rears and keep the team.

Hawkman....thanks for keeping it classy.

1. The taxpayers own the arena in OKC. Because the city owns it. I wouldn't expect a millionaire to renovate city hall, the courthouse, the arena, or any other public structure no matter how rich he is. They should fund the whole bill because they own the whole building. Here's how it works! Owner of basketball team pays rent to the city for the arena -----> rent goes to city-------> Landlord (city) fixes it up with $$$ when the tenant complains--------> City gets $$$ from taxpayers-------> Tenant continues to rent the arena...... It's pretty simple. I'm sure you rent your place because of those astronomical property values you mentioned...so, I'm sure you are fimiliar with that process.

2. yes, I've never been to Key Arena. I'm just going by what the NBA said when they called it the "2nd worst" facility. Lord knows what the worst is. And you basically contradicted yourself with this statement. You said the low price tag was due to "property value" then you said they only needed it to "build more luxury boxes."....I don't know where you are going with this but.....They aren't building the luxury boxes across the street from the arena. How in the world can building luxury boxes be affected by proprty values??? Maybe the contractors charge 10x the $$$ because they have higher notes on their houses?? Is that it??

3. All I can say is.......the team probablly is losing that much money...I don't think you have the ability or the time to prove that wrong. As a former resident of New Orleans, I can tell you. The Hornets returned to New Orleans because David Stern forced them to. (for PC reasons, they dont want to "abandon" the city) And the second that their lease runs up in New Orleans, they will be racing to OKC as fast as possible. I've been to the Hornet's games in New Orleans....No one is there. They are giving away 2 free tickets with any $50 purchase at Copelands...that's true. it's how I went to the game.

4. Settle down little guy! People in OKC will still go see a "crap team on the floor" The hornets were garbage when they were there. So blame yourselves, people still have to go to the games regardless. I came to the SEATTLE SONICS page because it is a place to discuss things relating to the SEATTLE SONICS and the only news surrounding the SEATTLE SONICS is how they won't exist next year. Sorry dude...go read up on the Mariners, the season is almost underway.

Sorry Hawkman51...I shouldn't have owned you in front of everybody like that. Should have sent a PM. It's pretty trashy to humiliate a man in public like that. Forgive me?

Wow I think its time to inform one lost misguided fool. So let me show you what a true thrashing is using a few things called facts and real information "little guy" and but dont worry I dont need a PM to put someone like you in place.

1. Good luck with that ownership thing buddy. Go down to the arena one night and use that special key that clay bennett give you to walk on in. Oh but wait our millionaires are willing to spend a chunk of their own money to help rennovate stadiums hmmm seems like Paul Allen did for the Seahawks and a group of investors is willing to help front the cost to help keep the Sonics in Seattle. So Im glad the city of OKC was willing to front the bill to pay for upgrades only the rich well enjoy. Im glad that your nice new luxury arena still wasnt good enough for Clay to move his team in unless he got his 150million dollar rennovation. Its so nice of him to move it OKC and tax groceries when "Oklahoma is one of seven states to fully tax groceries and one of the worst places in the nation for hunger. One in five of our children is at risk of going to bed hungry, according to the Oklahoma Task Force on Hunger." Wow seems like a really classy guy. Sorry the people didnt want to fund an entire project themselves. But yes my wife and I do rent since I am a student currently after serving five years in the Marines attempting to get my degree. So good observation. Oh and our millionaires like Bill Gates and others do alot for the city like help fund or donate large sums of money to help music halls, museums and other public structures guess those run few and far between out there in OKC.

2. yes, I've never been to Key Arena.

Oh wow I thought I was rather clear but let me hit up my points sentence by sentence

OKC only had to pay 150million because op property values you idiot.

Wow thought that was clear but here we go. You stated that Seattle had to fund a whole new 500million dollar project while OKC only had to do some light rennovations at the cost of 150million. Well "little dude" that 500million project was for an entirely new arena not just rennovations. Plus that arena wasnt even going to be in Seattle. The key arena is in the center of the city almost right next to the space needle so seems like prime land and space which would be property values.

Sorry but people arent fighting over living space in OKC while the city of Seattle is short on land.

Since I know you dont know this. Seattle is built up right on the water making new land an impossible thing. While OKC has plenty of rural suburbs and areas to continue to expand out into. Less land property goes up, more land property goes down.

Sorry you had to knock down Joes burgers to build an arena. The 150 was only to add more luxury boxes for Clay Bennett and his fat cat homies.

Like I said the Key Arena is next to the Expierience Music Project or EMP, the Space Needle and in downtown. Whats Ford Center next to? Myriad Botanical Gardens and Bricktown ballpark? Sorry if that dosent impress us. Good thing to that you OKC citizens well be paying an extra 150dollars as well so that Clay can upgrade what already seems like a classy arean. I mean the blue ma group and the rodeo come there already!!! Sorry those upgrade really wont be enjoyed much by you either.

Key arena isnt a dump since Im sure you havent been there.

Like you already said you havent been to Key Arena and Im sure you havent been to these other ballparks Im about to mention either. Fenway and Wrigley field. Now is the key in that category? heck no. it hasnt been around to have that kind of Magic. But guess what if you ever go to fenway or wrigley people arent chanting to knock it down and build a new park. Just because an arena gets low grades dosent mean we should just knock them down left and right.

2. So seems like I said that they forced you to build new luxury boxes on crumy property that dosent hold a candle to Seattle. Sorry we have a better city. Hope that fills you in bro.

So why not pickett to get the Hornets then? Nobody down there seems to be showing them much love and you well be getting a better team? Why cheer for a rich owner to take the team away from fans who do love the Sonics? Have I been to a game in the last 6years? No but yet again Ive been in the Marines and am currently in California. I well move back in May though and it sucks that I might never get to see the Sonics play again. Ive been to the Key for basketball and hockey and its a great place to watch the game in my opinion. We were up on the 2nd level and still felt right over the court. I think you already answered a great guestion. Stern is forcing a team in a terrible market to stay there. OKC is a great sports town I know that from the Sooners. OKC gets crazy for that. But I know that basketball well wear off after losing season after losing season. If a team needs to give out tickets like that then the team should be moved.

"little dude" I am settled down. Ive just proven. By the way the team still has a lease with the Key Arena till 2010 and the state is holding them to that lease. That lease well also hold up in court unless we just want to do away with laws. On the subject of rent you brought up heres how it goes--- Renter(team) signs a lease with owner(city) and is expected to uphold that lease since its law---> renter wants to break lease and move but cant since they are signed into a lease for a set amount of time---> renter attempts to buy his way out of the lease but is denied----> renter cant just up and leave since he has signed a lease agreement which holds him to said deal for a set amount of time----> said lease agreement is law and recognized by congress as law. So seams to me you can got and start getting ready later for this move unless we have stopped recognizing law in America. So the SEATLLE SONICS they should stay for at lest some time longer. But go enjoy the blue man group and rodeos down at Ford Center seems real nice and classy of a joint.....

Ill be more than happy to wait for your reply.
