Im happy for Gomez, i hope he does real well for them. If he stole 10 bases during spring training...i think he'll top 45..easily.

I'll give ya 5 more.......... I was thinking the same but he's going to need to improve at the plate. He's got the skills with the glove but it's his bat and can he stay in the line-up all year?

He's gonna have a hard time keeping that starting job if the Twins think they're close to contention at some point.  He can only steal bases if he gets on base, which is why the Mets would have been smart to keep him in AAA most of this year if they still had him.  Carlos Gomez has great potential, but terrible plate discipline... He struck out the other day on a pitch that hit him in the batters box... that's not what I would call a good eye...

I do wish him lots of luck this year, but I think that trying to learn on the major league level is going to hurt his development.

Carlos Gomez will be a very good player. Now that he will be starting, he will learn plate discipline and become better as he goes. I think, if he plays enough, he'll easily steal 50 and he has enough speed to lead the league in stolen bases IF he plays enough.

I believe we have an all-star SS named Jose Reyes who reminds me of Gomez back in the day... Fast as hell with huge upside, but horrible plate discipline... Reyes turned out alright.

Boo Intimidator - You stole my point!  Jose Reyes is exactly the same way, except while Reyes had similar discipline, Reyes always had more tools at the plate, more power, better ability to spray the ball both ways, etc.  All the same, most 21 years olds plate discipline is poor, and that will improve!

But 45 stolen bases is A LOT of stolen bases, this year I can see him topping 30, and maybe next year as that discipline develops I can see him getting up to 45 and beyond - all depending on how often he can get himself on base.  Discipline or not, some players just don't become hitters, Endy Chavez reminds me of that.  Great speed (not quite jose or Gomez like, but up there) but just doesn't have the everyday starters hitter ability.

I'm glad to see Carlos Gomez getting his shot. Especially starting in CF at such a young age. He should have a terrific year in Minnesota. Being as young as he is he'll have his periods of struggle, but hopefully he can work through them. The only thing that concerns me is that he's taking over for All-Star Tori Hunter and the Twins fans has to remember he's not the caliber of player Tori is.

Maybe all of Omar trades will look like wise moves for everyone at the end of the season.

Twins fans know we most likely won't see a player with Torii's caliber in the outfield for a while, but this kid is so damn fast! He can cover center field, know it is just playing in our stupid dome for 2 years. We also have an outfield of 3 players that no two played together last year, so there is going to be some figuring each other out and all before everything is said and done. I know I should not get used to this, but Gomez went 2-3 with a walk, a 2B, 2 stolen bases, and 2 runs including the go ahead run for us on opening day... it is easy to be excited about this kid!
