Always love to see those big upsets, but being a Badger fan, I hope that's the last one they pull. I think the homecourt advantage was a big plus for them in NC, but now they pretty much come to a homecourt for the Badgers in Detroit. Unless Davidson has another miracle in their pocket, I believe the Badgers will win this one with Michael Flowers hounding Curry all day and the rest of the disciplined, tough defense of WI handling Curry's teammates. Plus, I'm not sure Davidson has the defense and discipline necessary to beat the Badgers, who rarely get shook and have arguably one of the best coaches in the NCAA, particularly in making adjustments, something Georgetown could not do. And you can bet that WI will not be overlooking Davidson at all like Georgetown no doubt did, especially when they were ahead by 16 and figured it was a cakewalk.
All that being said, I wouldn't be shocked to see Davidson win, although it will take another 40-point day from Curry.
I also congratulate Davidson. They played great. The big problem I see though is that the NCAA should never have a 10 seed play in their home area against a 2 seed. Patently unfair and a big advantage for Davidson. The referees are going to error on the side of the home crowd, thus the reason Hibbert didnt get to play much. Georgetown wasnt allowed to play in their home area, neither should have Davidson. I am not a Georgetown fan by the way. Just call them as I see them.
Another Big East team bites the dust. The boys over at the Eastern Sports Preferential Network (AKA ESPN) are nearly at a loss for words. Now maybe they'll start talking about some of the teams that deserve the attention and accolades. P.S. Great game, Davidson.
Loved to see Seth Davis eat his words yesterday, he pretty much guaranteed both K State and Duke would be in the Sweet 16. What a smug a-hole, I doubt he even watches Big Ten basketball, typical of most of the media heavily biased toward the East, along with UCLA, Kansas and Texas. Nobody else matters in their book.
Wonder how Davis will judge the WI-Davidson game? Then again, I don't really care what the ANAL-lysts say, their bias is so obvious against either team it's sickening.
i'm no G'town fan, either, but I'd have to say they should have been able to handle a 10 seed regardless of location. Davidson played a great game, G'town did not. I'd bet that the Hoyas would beat Davidson 9 of the next ten times if they played in Davidson's actual home court.
Complaints about refereeing and home court simply take away from Davidson's accomplishment.
I also doubt that basketball budgets at smaller schools like Davidson are not quite what they are at the big boys in the area- While the Tar Heels, Dookies and Wolfpack in the area could send their teams to Japan for a game without batting an eye, the smaller schools should be able to send their teams reasonably close when possible. If the higher seeds are what they should be, they should win these games regardless.
Curry is playing unreal right now, lets hope he continues to play welll and beats wisconsin, then they can go and lose to Kansas, that will be a good run tho.
I agree with you and that was probably unfair to Georgetown and Gonzaga. But I knew Georgetown was not going to go very far in the tournament because, for some reason, I was never quite impressed by the Georgetown team the entire season. And while giving Davidson some advantage in terms of distance, it made up for a very entertaining tournament, except for the Hoyas fans.
And the funny thing about it is, I saw that game from the beginning to end, and to be honest, I did NOT see that many Davidson fans. Davidson is a very tiny private school from Charlotte, and their fans probably made up for about 10% of that big RBC Center in Raleigh. BUT, the rest of the arena was sold out to all of UNC fans whose game was coming up right after Davidson-Georgetown game. And guess who they cheered for the entire game? DAVIDSON. And any guess as to why that would be could be answered by every Georgetown fans and players....UNC lost to Georgetown just last March! Is this a drama or what?
Call me crazy, but I had Davidson moving on to Sweet 16 in my bracket from the very beginning, no joke. I had seen these guys play a few times this year, and I knew they could play if they were willing to play a little bit harder on defense.
