"Mets" fans, I can honestly predict that Carlos Beltran will have a M.V.P. season this year ! His leg injury will fade as the year goes by and you will see the real SUPER STAR that he is. Add that with - Jose Reyes, David Wright, Johan Santana, Pedro Martinez, John Maine, Billy Wagner, Carlos Delgardo (Yes Delgardo), Luis Castillo, Moises Alou, Oliver Perez, Ryan Church, Mike Pelfrey, Duaner Sanchez, Aaron Heilman and the rest of our Shea Stadium Boys - that spells CHAMPIONSHIP to me. I hope the "Yankees" make it to the World Series so that we can beat thier brains out. Can't wait for the season to start so that I can once again yell - " LETS GO METS " !

NEW JERSEY.....PETE

Well after 2006 and 2007 I have seen plenty of his superstardom. What more can the guy possibly do to get the idiots off his back?

For some reason, many fans will never be happy with him.

We are all hoping for that.  Carlos Beltran is a great ball player, MVP is questionable especially when he will undoubtedly lose votes to either Jose Reyes or David Wright if not both.  I am hoping that he can hit at least 35 Homers this year and the same with David.  If Carlos Delgado can hit the way he finished last year we may be alright.

Nice role call though.  After the last two years I am a little reserved with the lineup, but have intense belief in our pitching staff. How many teams can say that their 1-4 pitchers all post under a 4 ERA.  In fact if Orlando Hernandez can pitch then we actually have 5 pitchers who can hold that standard.

Our BP has vastly improved and looks healthy.  It is also so deep we will be able to dig into AAA for tremendous RP depth.  Even Schoenwise is pitching well right now.  How can we not be excited.  We have had this quality of pitching since the late 80s.

Nice post, but it's "Delgado" not "Delgardo".

I think we have the deepest rotation in the NL and a vastly improved bullpen. That will be the difference in the division. Schneider and Church improve our defense. Pagan and Chavez will be terrific defensive replacements and reserves. Wright is going to be the NL MVP. Reyes will not have gaudy stats, but will have his best all-around year. Beltran will play his usual 130 games( 2 DL trips) and be productive, but streaky. Church will be the surprise addition. I think he's like Maine and Perez, the "throw-in" who became the steal of the trade. I think Alou will be replaced @ the trade deadline and Delgado dealt as well. Our defense and pitching will prevail. Mets 95-67, 1st place. Braves 89-73, 2nd. Phils 87-75, 3rd.

The Mets will beat:

SD in the NLDS in 4. (Beltran MVP)

ARI in the NLCS in 6 (Wright MVP)

DET in the WS in 7. (Santana MVP)

Of course much of this prediction is me as a fan. However, the addition of Santana and the return of Sanchez are huge. I think subtracting Mota is also key. This team is flawed, but who isn't? I don't respect Philly's pitching, especially their pen. I don't respect Atlanta's back-end of the rotation or pen. I think Philly has a great offense, but pitching rules. Atlanta is short on both ends, but their top 2 pitchers will keep them alive and Jones and Teixera will have huge years.

This Mets team we have, theyre quite something. Im thinking this year:

We edge out Philly the last weekend of the season with 95 wins over their 93-94. They will however get the wild card

In the NLDS, the DBacks pose no threat, and submit quietly in 3 games

In the LCS, the Brewers, fresh off a 4 game series defeat of the phightin phils, take the Mets back to Shea for a game 6. Ryan Church, series MVP, drives home 4, the Mets advance over the Brewers.

The Tigers, lacking either Magglio Ordonez, Gary Sheffield or both, have a problem with the Mets. The lack of this/these righthanded bats cost the Tigers, including the postseason struggles of Miguel Cabrera. Santana and Perez, not faced with the challenge of these three, silence the mighty Tigers, as the Mets, in 5 games, win 4 lower scoring affairs.

I really believe that the Mets toughest challenge is winning the division. Given a short series, the Mets have 4 terrific arms that are a force to be reckoned with. The funny thing is, even if the Phils win the division, which they very possibly could, the Mets still have a wild card slot waiting for them.

The only things that hold the Mets back from a world championship are the potential of full and complete health on Detroits part, and the potential for Boston to make the series instead of Detroit. And lets face it, Boston's got some righty bats(Pedrioa, Youkillis, Manny, Lowell) that can beat on Santana and Perez, as well as lefty bats(Ellsbury, Ortiz, Drew)that can beat up on Pedro and Maine

Ebbets,

From your mouth to gods ears. I love the prediction though. Beating the Yankees would be the icying on the cake. I think the biggest surprise this year will be how Maine absolutly comes into his own. Us Met fans know the potential that he has shown in the past. This is his year to shine...........plus a no hitter to close out Shea
