it would be funny to be sitting in hell with about a billion christians and find out that the mayans were the keepers of the true faith and the ones that made it to heaven. I'd giggle despite the torture.Interesting statement.. anytime a hypocritical so-called Christian comes on a thread and says they will be laughing in the end when the non-believers are all wasting away in Hell he/she is lambasted as total scum.. but it's ok for an Atheist to say the same?

I'm just running out now, but I'll grab this one really quickly.
The key word there was hypocritical. Christians believe in not judging others. Athiests are not held to the same standard. That's the difference. The athiests are not claiming to be that which they are not. Since they don't believe in not judging others, then they are free to do so.
Also, for the record, I believe PV still considers himself agnostic (but I haven't been keeping up here).

On that whole flag folding thing.. actually both sides are right to a point. Originally there was no meaning for each fold of the flag. Over time however traditions developed within the various services attributing meanings to each fold. These traditions hold strong and are read at many military burials such as what Aboy just witnessed. :)

I hear what you are saying.. but I don't simply see this as judging others. I merely point it out as a personality trait that is just as unattractive in an Atheist as it would be in a Christian ;) Many in here have pointed out that they have the same moral traits as a Christian without the need of God to be the good person they are, so they should be held to those same standards they claim to believe in :)

Anyone who laughs at another persons pain in my mind is a very immoral person without much character. For a Christian or any other who claims to have those same morals it's hypocritical :)
Isn't much of the christian ideal based on the last shall be first and the first shall be last. The concept of withholding as much as possible from yourself in this life with the promise of eternal bliss, for those who do it the best, in the next one.
On the other hand, isn't the contrary to that message that the people enjoying this life the most will eternally suffer in the next life in hell. It seems to me whether you laugh or not the big story for the eternal next life is one of revenge for those who abstained in this one. The whole concept of hell seems to be one that is not a part in a story of a religion about love but one about pent up anger and the eventual release of it in the afterlife. To the victors go the spoils. To the loosers damnation.

Youve only given your word as proof that it is an accepted miltary custum.
I posted it because it is awesome that our military and therefor it's leaders present the folds with these meanings. Your web site proves that! It (like many other things), is probably at the discretion of the widowed, or family whether or not they want it read.
It is, and just was!! ;) The Colonel that was honored goes to my Church.
Not sure what your problem is with it that you would attempt to dis credit it, but what ever ;)

So in short, it seems quite clear to me that the military has no idea at all of what this means. It would seem logical that they folded it in a cool shape that happened to take 13 folds. The 13 colonies seems to make the most sense since there are actually 13 stripes on the flag. Meanwhile, 13 isn't some huge religious type number like say "40" or "10" is.
I agree that I don't know if the number "13" folds are meaningful as 13?
So why have it read? It doesn't mean anything. Why not let Christians just write their own scripts? Fold 1 is for Adam who founded this great race of men who would later serve our military. Fold 2 is for Noah who sailed upon the seas like our brave Navy members. Fold 3 is for Moses who lived in the desert like our brave men who fought in Iraq. Fold 4 is for the Christian dove that soars in the sky like our steel birds in the Air Force. Fold 5 is for...
I posted it for no other reason than I found it interesting and never knew what they meant (even as a military vet myself). I know ... THAT'S SAD!!! ANDDDDD I was on the funeral detail for the plane crash in Gander of a C130 in 1986 I think carrying Troops to the Sianai duty in Egypt. Tasked out for over a year, and I never knew (or maybe didn't care at the time).
I mean what difference does it make? The 13 folds meanings are just made up after the fact anyway. People should be allowed to have whatever they want read at their loved ones funeral, especially those who have given their lives for our country.
Does it make my heart happy that God, Chris, The Holy Spirit, and Eternal life are a part of a tradition in our Military Flag Folding. YES!
Of course that does not mean all Military is under that belief.

In regards to the recent earth quake in China that killed 9000 people... Why did it happen?
1) God hates the communist/atheist Chinese, and decides to teach them a lesson.
2) God wants to use the Chinese as fodder so more people will accept his "omnibenevolence". He kills 9000 people so 900000 people will embrace him.
3) God is punishing the entire world for sinning. The Chinese just got the short stick, and there is no particular reason why China was hit.
4) God blesses the USA only because Bush says so.

The Christian idea is based on faith in Christ.
Then, it's store your riches in heaven, and not on earth, yes. As we talked briefly about last week, every believers convictions are different, because the Lord knows are heart, and what is excessive for each individual (that changes from one person to another). Just making the point that God will be just based on our hearts.

I enjoy this life. Hell is for those that enjoy this life on any level, but for those that are separated from God because of sin.

It's not revenge! It is clear a clear and free choice that we make. God tells us that our sin separates us, and then tells us that Jesus will pay for your sin if you let him.
