OK. Just how 'wow' was that last birdie! I was sitting at my computer playing online poker and foolishly going all in on a pair of cowboys and was so sure that I would low. Then I look up as El Tigre's putt rolled ever so nonchalantly back towards the hole and I bent over waiting, waiting just to see what it would do. Of course, as always at these big moments, the Golf Zen Master himself soundly rolled the putt over twenty feet into the hole. And then... he gave a resounding celebration, which was well deserved after the comeback he staged this weekend. Anyway, while I was busy watching El Tigre, I thought I had went all in when in fact I still had 30 chips left. Of course my opponent raised me all in and while I wasn't paying attention, I was forced to fold (for taking too much time) and lost. There went $200. So this much I know, don't watch Tiger play golf while playing poker for money... Incredible tournament.
Yeah, Tiger can be stopped. His first round was what 70? Look, VJ had control of this one on Friday and let it get away. How many golfers were tied with Tiger on Saturday? They had their chances. It's like Jack says, you play the course, and not other golfers. Tiger's been tested in so many scenarios that he can handle the pressure like no other. The key is keep him out the final pairing (easy said then done), because head to head or a 54 hole lead his legend grows.
Hey Leland Jr., it's Steve Elling, the golf writer here at CBSSports.com. If you happen to see this message posting, send me an email at selling@cbs.com. I wanted to talk to you about this funny anecdote you related about getting so caught up in the moment, you forgot to bid in your poker hand. Good story.
The only way Tiger can be stopped at this point is if he only stops himself...Hey he put himself into contention on Sat after trailing by 7 shots.., after that he gave himself a chance..that is all you can do and we all know what Tiger can do if he gets that chance in the final group or close to the final group...he smells victory...
Just think now they go to Doral where he has won 3 times in a row.....
Just a thought, do you think he could win all 4 majors this year? I believe he can especially the way he is playing, but can he keep it up....we shall see....
I am not being a hater here, just stating a fact. Tiger picks and chooses the tournaments he enters, not playing in near as many as most of the other golfers. Most other pros are plugging along week after week. For example, there have been 12 tournaments this year with Tiger in 3 (PGA tour) verses Vijay in 8, Bryant in 7, B Watson 8, Phil Mickleson 6, Boo Weekly 9... catch my drift? I was going down the list of a few golfers I knew in US except for Vijay.
Actually I only prefer to watch the tournaments Tiger gets into because he makes them exciting and is fascinating to watch. He will probably go down as the greatest in history, at least in our lifetime. I would just like to see him in as many tounaments as other golfers instead of having longer rest periods between most tourn.
Like I said, I am not hating, just pointing out a fact.
Very true, Tiger's worst enemy is himself. His temper, cussing himself out, and his fairway % with the driver are the weak parts of his game. He showed some of that this week. His play out of the rough, sand saves, greens in regulation, and recovery from bad shots along with a strong grinder mental edge keep him in many tournaments which other golfers are only average.
Grand Slam this year? The odds are against it, but if anyone's capable it's Tiger. That's an enormous pressure to put on any one golfer to perform at that level at all 4 venues, but I like his chances for the first 2. Like Tiger says " Most people have little idea how difficult it is to win one major." 4 consecutive majors in one year would require everything to fall in place and no one else keeping pace. Sorry, but one bad round could put him in second place in any tournament or major.
I already stated he picks and chooses, let him grind it out like all the other golfers and his win/loss percentage goes way down. I am not here to argue that he is not the greatest of our era, just stating a fact he picks and chooses his tournaments. He gets more tournament rest than anybody out there.
