So, the last time we played a Tourney game in Arlington, we were practically booed out of the arena, stuf was thrown all game, etc etc. Now the old foe comes to Little Rock. Payback time? I think so. That's not quite enough to make me go get a ticket, but I'm seriously considering heading up to the capital city friday just to stand around outside and boo the cattle. GO AUSTIN PEAY!

In Austin rather, not Arlington. This thing needs an edit feature.

It's the cattle's rear end, Nolan Richardson, that is to blame for the treatment. Texas gets the same treatment in Arkansas, Oklahoma, and everywhere else. It's the price of success.
If you know anything about the history, not only did Strollin' Nolan walk out on his team before the game was over, Eddie Sutton(then the Ark coach) came off the bench and grabbed UT's Johnny Moore during a game. A couple of class acts.
If you saw the game, I'll believe you, but I've lived in Austin since '73 & have attended many games, and the behavior you're describing is not characteristic. Even when Richardson came back onto the court, all we did was chant, "a$$hoe, a$$hole..." which was definately appropriate. If we're guilty of anything, it's not filling the Erwin Center for our own games, and being too lax.
You're dreamin' if you think Austin Peay has any chance.

I could be wrong, it may have been San Antonio or another large city in the state, but I remember clearly that it was an NCAA tourney, in Texas, just a few years after we left the SWC, and we weren't even playing Texas, it was just a bunch of their fans.
And yes, I realize AP has no chance, but I root against Texas on principle, no matter who they're playing. If they were a #1, I'd be rooting for a #16 to make history.

I'm one of the few (possibly strange) people that have attended both Arkansas and UT during my undergraduate career and I'll go ahead and tell you the views I've seen from both schools. I'm a fan of both schools and was just a kid during the SWC years so I do not remember the rivalry, but Arkansas still considers Texas a huge rival. It's all about the hate of Texas on the hill. Students even put the longhorn stickers on their car upside down. Now in Austin, the students could really care less about Arkansas. They are more concerned with OU and A&M. Texas students do not even consider Arkansas a rival. Texas thinks of Arkansas they same way they think about Baylor, Rice, TCU...

JMRazorhorns, I'm a born and bred, 100% Razorback fan. I got my undergrad degree from UA and then a master's in NM. I thought briefly about going to UT to get my PhD because they have a good program there, but just couldn't bring myself to fraternize with the enemy.
I enjoyed your take on the two school's perspective of the rivalry. I've always realized that it was essentially a one-sided rivalry. I've always enjoyed the A&M rivalry more because we typically beat them and garnered a lot more respect from the Aggies. I hate to say it, but we didn't beat Texas enough to demand their attention (except in the 60s and 70s). That's the reason we laid it on them in the 2000 Cotton Bowl and in Austin in 2003. We saw it as a rival game and had more passion. The LongThorns just saw it as another game.
But this is basketball season, so I'll be pulling for whoever Texas is playing against (no matter what sport it is). Depending on how many fans make the trip up I-30, Texas shouldn't expect a very friendly crowd in Little Rock. They won't have much local support.
In the basketball rivalry...from the mid-70s until we moved to the SEC, Arkansas owned Texas in basketball, but it was always the "other" sport, so Texas fans hardly even noticed. I'll admit that Texas has a better BB program today, but that is only a recent development. Look out though, because Arkansas is on the way back.

I think Texas and Arkansas can both agree to dislike A&M and Oklahoma! I will say this about Arkansas though, they've beaten Texas 2 out of the last 3 times in football I believe. During the cotton bowl in 2000, @ Texas in 2003, and then lost to Texas in Fayetteville in 2004. (Matt Jones Fumble) Arkansas gets so up for those games that it always catches Texas off guard and they lose. Thats why its a good thing for Arkansas to view them as a hated rival, especially for when they are the underdog. Until Texas feels the same, Arkansas will always play them competitively, no matter their record. On a side note, the girls are much much hotter in Fayetteville.

Completely agree. You're exactly right on the 2 out of 3 against UT. I can still remember watching the end of the 2004 game and seeing Matt Jones run around the left side with that ball hanging out there like a loaf of bread. The UT DE (I can't remember his name, but he was an All-American) knocked the ball loose. Great play by Texas, but I think I could have caused that fumble with the way he was carrying it (okay, I would have never gotten within 10 feet of him, but you know what I mean). All UA needed was to down the ball and kick the 25 yard field goal for the 23-22 win. Instead, they turned the ball over and lost 22-20. That wasn't nearly as bad as the Stoerner Fumble-Stumble from 1998, but it was close.
I don't think we're going to catch the LongThorns off guard this year. Mack Brown remembers 2003 and will make sure his players know it too. Coach Petrino has his work cut out for him.
