Call it ugly if you want, but the Badgers win (once again)... by 17 points. They have the NUMBER ONE DEFENSE in the nation @ 53 ppg... they score, on avg, over 68 ppg, and avg margin of victory over 13... that may be ugly to some, but beautiful to me. Rather see a game like that, than a bunch of guys running up and down the court flinging wild shots all over the place, without any strategy whatsoever. Bo Ryan is truly a basketball purist - the guys he has coached over the years would likely make great coaches themselves, for all the "little things" he makes sure they learn. You rarely hear of all his national championships in D-III a few years back - or his lifetime winning percentage.
Yep, WI has been blessed to have Dick Bennett and Bo Ryan in succession, no matter how down their nose the rest of the country looks at this style. Some of the highest compliments about their style have come from Tom Izzo at MSU, who knows a good, well-coached and disciplined team when he sees one. Might frustrate the hell out of him on occasion, but he admires the WI program.
I consider the WI defense and style of play like a badge of honor that I wear proudly every year. Not everyone's favorite, but it's sweet music to me.
I agree Wisconsin is playing great ball this year. I cant believe all of the brackets have them a 3 seed after winning the Big Ten. I think Duke should be a 3 and Wisconsin a 2. Duke hasn't beat anyone except North Carolina, when the badgers have been playing steady lock down ball all season.
kuny111 are u serious? as much as i hate duke u said all they beat this year is nc? um they beat wisconsin by 24 so is wisconsin a nobody? wisconsin fans crack me up always cryin and talkin smack but neva winnin the big one.until they win a national championship like other big schools they will not get respect.i mean who did wisconsin beat this year? texas? well so did msu...they played 3 good non-conference teams and went 1-2 losing to marquette and duke. i mean rackin up wins against a so-so big 10 doesnt help your rpi. stop crying about what seed you want and if their good it wont matter. bo ryan is good but he is no izzo. ill still be rooting for big 10 in the tourney tho so hopefully they can proove people wrong! GO STATE!
BO RYAn is not very far behind Izzo! Since he cam to the Badgers, they lead the leauge in conference wins and are only third in the entore country for the amount of road wins over the last three years! And I think, head to head it is like Bo Ryan- 6 and Izzo-?1. Granted I agree that seeding does not matter you still have to win games, and also the Badgers need to win the Big One, but they Bo is very close to being on a par with Izzo
par with izzo? are u kidding me? maybe in the regular season they are par....4 final fours in 9 yrs and 1 national championship. last year was wisconsins best chance and they choked. par? what is that guy smoking. dont matter what u do in the regular season its the dance that counts. not trying to be funny (because i really dont know) but has bo ryan even made a final four? if not hes not even close to izzo. state is a top 5 program.year in and yr out we are good, once we get to the dance we play better for one because we are playing teams unfamiliar with our set plays unlike the big 10 who know our plays left n right.
Bo Ryan was a pretty good D3 coach... may not be D1, but I think his record as a COACH speaks for itself, regardless of the league...
In his last 12 seasons as the Pioneers’ leader, Ryan guided his team to 314-37 record, including a phenomenal 157-7 record in Williams Fieldhouse. UW-Platteville was the winningest team of all of college basketball during the 1990s, with a 266-26 record (90.9 percent). Ryan’s 1996-97 club set the all-time NCAA record (all divisions) for fewest points allowed at 47.5 ppg. He was named national coach of the year four times and WIAC coach of the year on six occasions.
And at Wisky, he's been there for only 7 years, and has a record of 169-59, with 3 Big 10 Championships.
Izzo might want to keep an eye on his rear-view mirror, and MSU might want to start living in the PRESENT and not 2000...
Yep, he must have been...Bo left Izzo behind along time ago. Head to head, since Ryan took over at UW, Ryan has an 11-2 advantage, including a 2-0 record in the Big 10 tourney.
Four final 4's and a NC? Good thing MSU didn't face a Ryan led Badger team in the NCAA's....they would be 0-fer...
I'm not gonna argue izzo vs ryan cuz obviously izzo's had more D-1 success. I would say that actually 2000 was WI's best chance since they lost a fairly close game in the Final Four (UNC, & I believe both were 8-seeds!) But that was before Bo Ryan.
Last year they lost Butch just before the Tourney. That combined with Tucker shooting poorly and their early exit was not a complete shock/choke. I'm not being funny either, but if you take out your best starting big men and Neitzel has an off night MichSt probabaly won't win in Round 1, nevermind go as far as you seem to be expecting.
state is a top 5 program.year in and yr out we are good, once we get to the dance we play better for one because we are playing teams unfamiliar with our set plays unlike the big 10 who know our plays left n right
Set plays in hoops are typically not that complicated, so I don't think its just that B10 opponents are familiar with MichSt. I'd say once you get away from the Big Ten its the level of Defense they play against drops a bit (generally of course)... So, who knows, if the first few teams you face in the dance don't figure out that their top priority is to stop drew and raymar and actually make a great effort to do that instead of trying to score 80 points, then yeah MichSt could go deep into the tourney yet again with a bit of luck.
Bo Ryan was a pretty good D3 coach... may not be D1, but I think his record as a COACH speaks for itself, regardless of the league...
I don't see how ANYBODY could even argue with this. Damn, those are good numbers. Guess I should have argued the point. It's not like he had the world's best athletic specimens coming to UW-Platteville I'm sure, and still managed winning 90.9% of games for a whole decade!!! Wow.
Of course, we're supposed to forget regular season games when it comes to Ryan (11)vs Izzo (2) too. lol
But Cleeves said MSU is a Top 5 program EVERY year...?
after the 2000 Natl Champ year, they've gone 28-5, 19-12, 22-13, 18-12, 26-7 , 22-12, 23-12, and 25-7 this year... I'm pretty sure they aren't 'top 5' every year with those records... but keep exaggerating.
And just to solidify my point, on the Top 126 coaches OF ALL TIME Win list, Bo Ryan comes in at #96 with a 525-158 record... Izzo is not on the list.
Keep watching your back MSU... Bucky's coming.
And I watched Bo Ryan coach in the WIAC at Platteville, and his guys knew how to play D, and play AS A TEAM... just like his Badgers.
yea i said top 5 program..so u showed the records of what we went right in those records what did we have a great 8 appearance and 2 final 4's? the reason we dont go 28-2 is because year in and year out izzo schedules tough non-conference games, we play powder puffs but we always challenge ourselves with good games because it makes us better come tourney time. and who gives a BLAH about what he did at division 3 next thing u know u will be bringin up his high-school record.like i said once wisconsin wins the big one feel free to join the great coaching club with izzo. all time win list? lmaooooo how many were division 3's? nobody cares about division 3 thats like comparing grand valley st's coach in football to jim tressel, who wouldnt be as respected if he had never won the big one at ohio st.like i said the past 10 years we are TOP 5 program. thats difference between state and wisconsin fans, we base on final 4's and championships, wisconsin judges their regular season record and division 3 success. oh by the way nice win today i guess that means u guys are gonna win the national championship ahahahaha....30 fouls on us! good refs eh! let em play we woulda showed the softness in em!
