I don't think Paul Hewitt should be fired. In this day in age when the big time players only stay for a year or two and then leave for the NBA, you can't expect great consistency year in and year out. Without the early departures of Thaddeus and Javarris, GT would be one of the better teams in the country this year. Hewitt is a great recruiter and works best when he has a guy he can trust at the PG position. This year and the year Zam Fredrick was PG have been the only real bad years for Hewitt because his PG was inexperienced or just not very good. But when he has a good PG ala Jarrett Jack and Javaris Crittenton he has shown what he can do. Our offense is built around a PG that can penetrate and score off the drive and also kick it out to the perimiter. Next year you will see another guy in the Hewitt PG mold in Iman Shumpert. He's a big PG just like Jack and Crittenton who can do the things neccessary to make this offense go. Also Mo Miller has been coming on of late and he might play at PG while Iman plays SG. Don't forget we'll also have Dickey back next year to play along with Lawal in the post. Tech will be back stronger than ever next year. No reason to fire Hewitt yet.

There should not even be talk of it this year. If next year is more of the same, this post topic would be appropriate.

no dickey is coming back. he's red shirting this year because of injury so he'll be back next year. i think we'll have a good team next year with clinch, dickey, lawal, peacock, aminu (its a shame we couldn't get his brother), and then add on a terrific freshman in shumpert. im thinking a 20 win season next year and at the top of the ACC standings. we'll just have to ride this year out and prepare for next season. Go Jackets!

While I don't think Hewitt needs the axe, I am seriously wondering why this team looks like the wheels fell off.

hell no you idiot. hewiit put tech back on the map. he's taken us to a few tournaments and a national championship. if kids wouldn't be so retarded and money-hungry and stay in school, we would be a top 15 team every year. (i.e. jack, bosh, crittenton, young) i'm excited to hear about that recruit. maybe he'll do something crazy like value an education. that's what was so great about our final four team. they were all older and experienced and wiser in the ways of the game. that's what happens when you play it more. hewitt is a great man and a hell of a coach and we're lucky to have him. all we need on this team this year is a legit ball-handler, which three different guards have proven we don't have. hopefully the new kid can mature and adjust rapidly.
go jackets!!

No I don't think he should be fired at least not this season. He has a good core group of guys and he needs to use the guy Clinch more off the bench. I look at the way they played the Tar Heels and I say to myself that they could compete in the ACC this year.

Ridiculous to even consider it. He's a great recruiter as well as a very good gameday strategist. The other comments are correct - he's been decimated by early departures. Give him three years of stable talent and they have a top ten team if not another Final Four. My guess is that he will continue to learn to balance top-level recruits that leave after a year or two with recruits that stay all four or five.

what for? you can only do so much with sub-par to average talent. the man has to have something to work with. there really is nothing one can do about players leaving early for the NBA. although if there is any one area i do want to see an improvement in is player development. if we were a loaded program like kansas or carolina then yes, he would definietly be on the hot seat. besides, who the hell would we get?

You can't fire Hewitt. Are you seriously trying to tell me that you thought we would do well this year, the year after losing top talents such as young and crittenton and then not having players near that talent step in. I forsaw them sucking it up big this year. Im atleast happy we are near .500.

Can him! You can't recruit 1 or 2 bluechip all american's & rest on your laurels like hewitt has. There's always a chance they will leave early. It's common sense. The smart coaches reload every year to cover their a$$es. Hewitt st | |
