Mikey Scores a 2nd at New Hampshire

Well, Michael Waltrip's luck may finally be changing for the better. Last week at Sonoma Mikey had a solid 25th place finish and increased his points lead over the 36th position by a nice margin moving from 34 to 31st.  Then this week Mikey has a solid second place finish at New Hampshire.  The 170 points he received vaulted him to 28th in points and has moved him from the danger list of the go or go homers.

Now some may say it was because of the rain but let I follow Mikey and listen to him and his crew chief and spotter during the race on "HotPass"  When the caution came out on Lap 204 because of the blown engine of the 84 car Mikey pitted and came out 24th on the grid.  On the drop of the green flag Mikey dropped like a rock to the last car on the lead lap,30th,. he said his right front tire was bad.  He had recovered just a little and moved up to 28th when the caution came out for the 8 car spin. Mikey got a chance to come in put on 4 fresh tires and top off with fuel. Well, this stop put him about 3 laps short but he was going to go for it.

Mikey had moved up to 20th and was closing up on the 2 car when the Junior/McMurrary incident happened.  So Mikey moved up to Second and was pulling a Junior under caution. He was shutting his engine off and coasting around the track to save fuel.  Well when the green flag came back out Bobby Kennedy told him he had saved enough to go all the way.  Then when the last caution came out it was enough to allow Mikey to go a green white checkered if needed.

The rains came and as we know Mikey came in second.  Although I am estatic about his finish, I am going to try to lay low this week and not harp on it.  I can only hope that Mikey can have a strong, can we say win, run at Daytona.  This race may just be what Mikey needed to get his team on track and moving towards that top 20 finish.

David had a good run he finished 19th but he was consistently running between the 15th and 20th position all race long.  He stayed in 29th, in points, passed by Mikey, but again moved himself out of danger from the go or go homers and it was a nice rebound after last weeks showing on the road course.

Mike McDowell ran into some bad luck, his engine expired.  He went down a lap early but had maintained his position and looked to have a finish around 31st or 32nd.  Now he is tied with the 77 for 35th, 25 points ahead of the 36th place car.  Hopefully, he can catch onto the back of the 55, or 44 and they can help push Mikey to MWR's first win.

Are You a Fantasy Junky?

Last season I was talked into joining a Fantasy Football league for the first time.  Well, I had never thought much of Fantasy anything, but what the heck it was a way to keep in touch with friends on the Racing Boards and gave us a chance for a little competition.  So what happened?

Well, I joined 2 leagues and then Hockey season started.  Well, Being a Hockey fan I joined 2 more leagues and it was fun watching football and hockey games while having the laptop open and seeing how I was doing.  Then I started to really manage my team,  I started looking at the free agent lists almost daily, checking the transaction listings to see if someone may have dropped a player I was willing to have on my team or replace an injured player.  Then the trades, I wanted to make trades and would listen to any offer.  Not necessarly complete a trade but willing to listen and maybe tweak it to where we both agreed.

Now as a NASCAR fan when January rolled around and racing season was ready to start gearing up here comes more fantasy leagues. I got into one on Yahoo, CBS, 5 on ESPN, 1 on Fox, 1 on our local Fox Station, and 2 on NASCAR.com.  Well, you'd think that be enough for anyone but wait, Baseball, and I love Baseball.

So I joined 2 baseball leagues here on CBS and once again I get to pick up and release players, make trades and I have the laptop open for the games that come on MLB Extra Innings keeping track of how my team is doing, do I have a chance etc.  My wife thinks I'm crazy but what the heck I am enjoying myself.

Now Football season is gearing up and the leagues are forming.  Right now I'm in 4 leagues and getting my Draft Order ready.  I cannot wait for Draft day so I can see who I have, and whose got who so I can make possible trades for players I want.

Oh, by the way, I was the regular season champion in one of my football leagues, lost in the first round, Won one of the Hockey League championships, and am doing ok in autoracing and Baseball.  Those seasons still have a long way to go so you never know I may get another championship before it's over.

I know myself and a few others feel like we should start a Fantasy League Anonymous for those of us who have become junkies. So let everyone know are you a Fantasy League Junky?  IF so how did you get started and how many leagues do you play in?

Mikey and Michigan

First I would like to congratulate the Fans of Dale Earnhardt Junior for Juniors victory.  I know I an hard on these fans and most of us knew it was a matter of time for Junior to win and he now has.  The monkey is off is back at least for another 76 races (LOL) So enjoy your victory and celebrate because it was a long time coming.

Now for Mikey and Michigan.  Well, do to qualifying being rained out Mikey was guaranteed to be in the field and he started 38th.  At the drop of the green flag I was worried because here he was complaining how loose the car was and it was undriveable.  Then he moved to the top of the track and started to pass cars at an average of about 1 a lap for the first 30 laps.  In fact he lead a lap prior to the first pit stop.  Mikey ran consistently in the top 20 all day and after a pit stop he would fall to about 18th and then start climbing to the front.  At one point he was a solid 12th and again moving up.  When the caution with around 50 laps to go that is where he started to run into problems.

Bobby Kennedy told Mikey he was about 2 laps short of fuel and that Mikey needed to conserve.  Well Mikey started to back down his lap times but the problem became clear that the other cars that were pitting for fuel and tires were catching Mikey and passing him while he was still conserving fuel.  When Sam Hornish spun with 3 laps remaining Mikey was still in 18th position so he didn't gain anything saving fuel, in fact he probably hurt his position,  So in my mind it was a bad call, good thought thinking they could gain a top 10 but a bad call in the end.

Well when the caution came out it was 4 tires and fuel for the 55.  Mikey came out in the 18th position and was ready to fly.  At the drop of the green flag I guess the racing was going strong, anyway when the caution came out TNT showed the 10 sliding around and then I heard Mikey say it wasn't Patrick's fault.  Apparently, the 1 car of Martin Truex Junior got real loose and checked up and Mikey was right behind he checked up and the 10 hit him in the rear spinning both cars out.  So Mikey ended up finishing 23rd.  That is how his luck has run Mikey had a car capable of finishing in the top 10 and a questionable call by the pit crew and bad luck once again kept him from getting the finish he deserved.

But the good news is he is back in the top 35 and doesn't have to worry about qualifying at Infenion.  I know a lot of folks are saying it curtains for Mikey at the road course, after all he put Terry in the car last year.  But he put Terry in the car because he wanted to guarantee the car made the race and Terry is not bad on a road course.  But here is his stats and I have a good feeling he will do well again this week.

18 Starts, 1 Top 5, 7 Top 10's  Average start 20th, Av
