Obama's preachin man

Posted on: March 14, 2008 11:27 am

Jeremiah Wright has officially set the African American race back 200 years. Wright goes on and on about how bad we are run by rich white Americans and how bad we are to our black friends? If Bill Gates and his entourage were running America, I could see it. But it's not! Name me 5 reasons as to how we are bad to the black community? The one's selling pot, they're not the government's fault. THEY CHOSE to sell pot because their parents probably didn't tell them that pot and such is bad and illegal! No, Mr. Wright, I've never been called the N word. But, how come your brothers of the same race can use the word to call each other that?! If you want to d@mn America, well then go ahead. It's your right, but don't tell me how terrible we are when you are living here!

Even though you were a pastor, you have given the ones the preach the word of God a bad name, even though 90% of them are not that bad at all.

Are you saying they are slaves again?

Obama's preachin man

What disturbs me the most about the Rev. Wright's comments and the reaction to it is (and I want to be very clear in how I say this), it appears many people believe bigotry can only run one way. An African-American cannot be racist towards a white or a Hispanic or an Asian or . . . I think to accept this is to empower oppression. I have seen many instances where, in a natural disaster for example, the first target of the looters is the Asian or Indian business owner in the 'hood, even when that business is otherwise unaffected by the disaster. I guess there could be an explanation for this kind of activity: Years of prejudice and oppression have bred resentment that spills over in bad times, or some such. I don't buy that kind of convoluted "logic". I think it creates future problems while not doing anything to solve current issues. Just my two cents' worth.

Obama's preachin man

5 reasons? OK buddy, you asked for it.

1. Politics and big business. This country is divided into two groups, the "haves" and the rest of us. If you think you have the same rights as the rich, you're delusional. I really don't think I have as much access to our government as Bill Gates. The regular, working people in this country are being turned against each other by the politicians into believing there's some sort of left vs. right or conservative vs. liberal struggle. And who's bankrolling this lie, the rich, through political bribes (campaign contributions)!. The poor and minorities are victims of this farce to a greater extent than the "middle class" and that's why they more often supoprt policies favoring the people, as opposed to those favoring big business. It's easier for a larger percentage of white middle class people to be turned against each other (fooled) because we have less experience with the ramifications of this system.

2. Education. Make no mistake public schools in this country are segregated by race and quality. If you don't believe that, you haven't spent enough time visiting public schools. The difference in quality of facilities and curriculum are obvious. How are students from a poor minority inner city school with a low tax base supposed to compete either academically or athletically with students from a wealthly suburban white school? They can't! You say blacks are good at sports? Look at the NBA? I say look at which high school teams are winning conference championships. Not the ones from minority schools with old run-down facilities. Think how many of those minority sports stars would have become doctors or engineers if they had been exposed to AP courses instead of just a ball and a hoop and a lot of free time.

3. Punishment. Minorities are subjected to tougher penalties, longer incarceration, and higher rates of death penalty sentences than whites for similar crimes. Minorities are detained at a higher rate by the police. The poor have less access to quality legal representation than the rich. How can justice be equal when wealth buys access? And they CHOSE to sell pot because they didn't BELIEVE they had any other choices.

4. Religion. You say 90% of religious leaders are not that bad at all. That's nonsense. A huge part of the reason we have such a divided society is because so many of the major Christian denominations have ignored the teachings of the gospels and instead decided to preach issues that divide us. Jesus taught us to love our enemies and share what we have, not judge others that are different from us. Where's that message when we read the headlines or hear from our religious "leaders"? No wonder poor and minority congregations are overreacting to this situation.

5. Us. You think this blog is being GOOD to the black community?? We sit in judgement of others who are differint from us without trying to understand why we disagree with them. Just because it doesn't make sense to you doesn't mean it's wrong. And just because somebody else tries to discover why somebody commits a crime so they can prevent another one, doesn't mean they condone the crime. Just because Jeremiah Wright has preached some radical concepts, doesn't mean he hasn't done good work. Just because Barack Obama attends his church doesn't mean he buys into everything that's said. How many social principles of his own church has our president ignored in the course of his duties?

That's my 5. I'm sorry, I think it might have been a rhetorical question. One you don't really want the answer to.
