Pac-10 Power Rankings, Week 4

Posted on: January 27, 2008 11:32 am

1. UCLA (1) Even with a short bench, they got it done in the Beaver State.

2. Washington State (2) Close call against ASU.  Eventually trailing at halftime will catch up with them.

3. Stanford (3) Quietly hanging just behind the leaders.

4.  USC (6) Great win in the Quack Shack.  They lit it up in overtime.

5. Arizona (7) They will be dangerous now with Bayless healthy.

6. Arizona State (4) Brutal homestand, and it won't get any easier the next few weeks.  Harden is a beat though.

7. Washington (8) That game against Arizona showed they are a one-man team.  At least that one man is pretty good.

8. Oregon (5) 2 heartbreaking home losses.  At least they can regroup against OSU this week.

9 Cal (9) Ryan Anderson needs some help.

10 Oregon State (10) Meet the new boss... same as the old boss.

Pac-10 Power Rankings, Week 4

I agree with most of this. I would put Arizona above USC and maybe even Stanford. If they can continue to play like they did against the Huskies, they could be beat anybody. I would also like to point out that if they end the regular season like this, I think Washington gets an NCAA bid and Oregon goes to the NIT. I would like to see the Dawgs in sixth place to be safe but I think the best conference in college basketball deserves seven teams.

Pac-10 Power Rankings, Week 4

The conference really is brutal this year.  Other than OSU, every team has sollid post-season potential.  They'll each get a couple of losses that aren't expected due to the conference depth, but hopefully the conference RPI will result in more Pac-10 teams being considered.

I'm probably the only person not impressed by Bayless, but I'm always a little shy when it comes to short shooting guards.  He played better this weekend than I've seen him, though, so I may end up changing my mind.  For his sake and Arizona's I hope he stays in school.  Guys with his skills set just don't star at the next level, but on the right college team (next year?) they can be final four material.  For Washington's sake, I hope he leaves!

Months ago I said if the Huskies finished .500 in conference they might get an NCAA bid.  After they lost to several good teams, I backed off that prediction and now think they'll need to finish a couple of games over .500 to get in now.  The past two weeks definitely helped right the ship, though.

Pac-10 Power Rankings, Week 4

Just my opinion, but if the Pac 10 doesnt get 7 teams this year, then somebody will REALLY get snubbed.  Right now, I would say the only 2 teams in the conference that don't deserve to make the dance are Cal and OSU.  So there are really 8 teams that could make it.  And all 8 are playing pretty good right now.  ASU is starting to fall a little, but Oregon, USC, Zona, and UW are heating up fast.

Pac-10 Power Rankings, Week 4

If the season ended today.. their would be no way Washington gets in the tourney. They need at least 12 wins in the Pac 10 or win the Pac 10 tournament.
