VIDEO PLAYER

Q. What are the minimum system requirements?
A. For the best Masters Live experience your computer must be able to support the live, streaming video. We recommend Internet Explorer 6 or above with Windows Media 9 or above. Masters Live will also work in Firefox 2.0 or higher on the PC. Mac users can view Masters Live in Safari 3.x, or Firefox 2.x with the Flip4Mac plug-in installed. Some older Mac computers may not stream the video as smoothly as intended.
  • Minimum Hardware Requirements
    • Any Intel, AMD, or PPC processor, 450mhz or faster
    • Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Mac OSX or greater.
    • 512 MB of RAM
    • 16-bit sound card and speakers
    • 65,000-color video display card
    • Web browser (see below); cookies enabled
    • JavaScript enabled
  • Supported Web Browsers
    • Internet Explorer 6.0 and higher (recommended) (PC)
    • Firefox 2.0 (PC/Mac)
    • Safari 3.0 (Mac)
  • Video Player Plug-in
  • Broadband Internet Connection
    • The live stream is of very high quality. Be sure your broadband connection is capable of sustaining a transfer rate of 600 kbps.
Q. I am hearing audio but the video screen is black.
A. Reduce the video acceleration in the WMP plugin:
  1. When the player is active, right-click on it and select 'Options...'
  2. At the bottom of the window should be a 'Video Acceleration' option. Change it from full to half (or to zero, if needed) by moving the slider. If the slider is disabled and greyed out, click on 'Restore Defaults' to re-enable the slider. Windows Vista Users (WMP v11.06+): Later versions of Windows Media Player do not have the 'Video Acceleration' slider. Instead, you may try unchecking the following options on the 'Performance' tab:
    • Drop frames to keep audio and video synchronized
    • Use video smoothing
    • Display full-screen controls
    • Turn on DirectX Video Acceleration for WMV files

Q. (Windows Users) My video playback is very choppy - what can I do?
A. There are several steps you can take to try to reduce the choppiness of the video:
  2. Reduce the video acceleration in Windows:
    1. Right-click on your Windows desktop, and select 'Properties'
    2. Click on the 'Settings' tab
    3. Click the 'Advanced' button
    4. Click the 'Troubleshoot' tab
    5. Reduce the 'Hardware acceleration' slider to just under half (the third marker from the left)
    6. Click 'Apply' to apply the changes. You may have to restart the video and/or your web browser.

Q. Will this work on a Mac?
A. Mac users can view Masters Live using Safari 3.0 or Firefox 2.0 with the Flip4Mac plug-in installed. The stream may be choppy on some systems. For the best experience we recommend using a PC with IE browser 6.0 or higher.
Q. I have a Mac running OS X. Why do I get an error with my Windows Media Player?
A. For users who receive an error containing this message: Issue: Missing .DLL files in standard installation there is a patch to fix this. Mozilla.org no longer supports Windows Media Player on Mac OS X. This plugin is automatically installed in the Internet Plug-ins folder in the Library Folder using the installer from Microsoft's website.

However, it has known problems (and in some cases severe) when used with Mozilla based browsers. The website mozdev.org has instructions and the Flip4Mac WMV Plugin which should be used instead.

Q. Why do the buttons not work on the video player?
A. Live video cannot be paused. Clicking on player buttons may stop the video.

Q. Can I have multiple video players running simultaneously on my computer?
A. In addition to meeting the minimum system requirements, running multiple video players is possible but varies from computer to computer. It would require a fast internet connection with a computer that had a fast processor and a large amount of available RAM.

Q. Why don't I see the video, even if my computer meets the minimum system requirements?
A. For Windows Media or Vista operating systems: your player may be missing some files. Click here for instructions from the MozillaZine Knowledge Base for the patch to download those files. Please note: Our internal testing indicates that you will need to follow the instructions labeled Installing the new plugin AND Restoring the standard plugin. For additional information, please see the next FAQ below regarding the "ERROR" message.

Q. I am running Windows Vista or Windows XP and I am not seeing the video.
A. For optimal viewing of the live show, we recommend Internet Explorer 6+ with Windows Media Player 9+. The player also works in Mozilla Firefox. If your system meets the minimum criteria and you are still not able to watch video, you may require a patch to Windows Media Player.

Issue: The Windows Media Player plug-in for Firefox is not included in Windows Vista and Windows XP Media Center Edition. Additionally the standard plug-in may be missing several necessary .dll files.

Resolution: Due to this issue, you have two options to view the player:
  • The simpler choice is to use Microsoft Internet Explorer to access March MadnessŪ on Demand.
  • If you really want to use Firefox on Vista or Windows Media Center, then please refer to the following article for patch instructions: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Windows_Media_Player#Missing_plugin. Please note: Our internal testing indicates that you will need to follow the instructions labelled Installing the new plugin AND Restoring the standard plugin.

Q. When playing a video, why does the video image become either invisible or disappear when I click a control?
A. This is a known issue with Firefox 2.0 and above. It can be fixed by adjusting the plugin settings:
