"A lot of people ask me this. They say 'Are you true in what you said that he's the best defensive back or corner that you've had at Virginia Tech?' In my mind, yes," said Foster.
Flowers and the Hokies will need to be their best against the Jayhawks, who boast the No. 2 scoring offense in the nation, averaging 44.3 points per game.
Quarterback Todd Reesing and Kansas have also put up nearly 300 yards of offense per game through the air, but they haven't seen a defense anywhere near as good as the Hokies this season.
"Our defense is fast, one of the fastest in the nation if not the fastest, and we can't wait to take the field," said Flowers. "We looked at them on film and they are very high-powered. They feel like they can't be stopped, but we feel like we can shut them down if we play our fundamental game."
Flowers has started every game this season at a position Virginia Tech calls "boundary cornerback."
With the Hokies playing a lot of eight-man fronts, the position is usually responsible for keeping tabs on the tight end, watching the running game and the wide receiver on that side of the field.
"That guy needs to be a physical football player, good tackler and just a good sound player," Adams said. "But he needs to be a great cover guy, too and Brandon possesses all those talents and skills. He's not the fastest guy we've had, but he's probably the best football player we've had at that spot. He understands the game and he understands his position."
With Flowers getting such high praise from his coach as the greatest in school history, you would think he would have been an automatic first-team All-Conference selection.
