FINAL RECORD
20-12, 12-4 MAC West, first place

WHAT WENT RIGHT
The heart and soul of Western Michigan's attack was its defense. It played an extremely physical game, relying on free throws (it led the MAC in attempts with 785 and in percentage at .753) and limiting opponents' ability to get good shots (it led the MAC in FG percentage defense at .407).

WHAT WENT WRONG
The Broncos were in catchup mode throughout the MAC season. They tried to make a national impression. They didn't put themselves on the radar early enough in the season, going 6-7 in November and December. That likely cost them a bid to the NIT or CBI despite winning 20 games this season.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"He's the best team captain I've ever been around. You see how he plays. I thought he was the best player in the MAC this year. He comes in every day and sets an example for how we have to play as a team. We just all look up to him." -- Western Michigan G Shawntes Gary on the presence of senior C Joe Reitz this season.
