Saints report: Getting inside
His team had just sent Siena home on a charter flight from Tampa back to Albany, and Villanova coach Jay Wright wanted the world to know what his Wildcats had just been up against. "This team is going to be good for a long, long time," Wright said. "They really know how to play basketball. They put fear in you. That game looked like we controlled it some, but we knew the way they played, it could have turned around in a second. When they get the lead on you, it's over." The Saints never got the lead that Easter Sunday in Florida. Coming off an upset of fourth-seeded Vanderbilt, they never did shoot the ball right in falling to No. 12 Villanova. So, they lost the chance to advance to the Sweet 16 in Detroit. That was about all they lost that day. People knew the champions of the MAAC; and also had to know this team had a real chance to be back. In his third year as Siena's coach, Fran McCaffery has it going in Albany, and the Saints lost only emotional leader Tay Fisher after that game in Tampa. He'll be missed, but this team is loaded with talent. Copyright (C) 2008 The Sports Xchange. All Rights Reserved. | ||||||||||||
