Penn State entertained hopes of being a dark-horse contender in the Big Ten this season and possibly even winning enough games to snare its first NCAA Tournament bid since 2001.

However, those hopes were dashed in early January, when senior forward Geary Claxton went down to a season-ending knee injury in the Nittany Lions' fourth conference game. Throw in the fact that Penn State's second-best player, junior forward Jamelle Cornley, battled a bruised knee all season, and the Nittany Lions were fortunate to go 14-16 in a season in which it was starting four freshmen at the end.

Claxton was on his way to all-Big Ten honors as he was averaging 17.5 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists. Cornley averaged 12.1 points and 6.0 rebounds before undergoing knee surgery the day after the regular season ended.

With those two out, freshman guard Talor Battle became the star, as he averaged 10.l points and 3.1 assists.

Battle and Cornley will be the two players Penn State builds around next season along with junior guard Stanley Pringle (6.8 points, 2.3 assists), freshman forwards David Jackson (5.5 points) and Jeff Brooks (2.8 points), and freshman center Andrew Jones (4.0 points).

So here we go again, another losing season, even with the injuries, it's a broken record huh my friends. Anyway let's look at our players for next season. All and all i think we will have a very athletic team. We have a chance to be very good like Purdue this year or we might stay young and play 500 ball. I watched alot of PSU basketball this year and the guys that showed ...(more)

Seriously, I dont even feel like going into it here.  If it's true...wtf...i've had enough with our athletes getting charged with crimes...next thing you know one of our fencers will end up in jail...

Finally, a solid 2 guard. 6'5 205 out of Arlington Texas! Can really hit from beyond Mike Walker range. Averages 32 ppg and had games of 51 and 49.

I know he didnt play much last year but i think JoePa should let him play cuz we need another player. Whats their to loose even if he got hurt he would most likely be back by Sept and we have plenty of WR's anyway. Might as well see what he can do.

Hopefully we can stay competative in this game and keep it close because we have a good 6-4 guard recruit coming this weekend to watch us play. Lets bring in another 3 star Geary Claxton player to compliment Taylor Battle.

We have officially seen the demise of Penn State basketball. Get off of the sinking ship while you still can, while I go down with the ship and wait for Duke basketball to pick me up.

I now am thouroughly convinced Ed needs to go. Okay, so G gets injured. That's no excuse, in fact that just proves that our coaches have not incorporated the young guys. We have bodies, but ...(more)

Anybody watch this game?  Is it just me or does Penn State basketball have really bad luck?  I mean, they lose one of the best players in the big10, have other damaging injuries like Jamelle Cornelley who missed this game, and start 4 freshman who were all playing baskeball in high school last year.

In my opinion, I think it's a combination of really bad luck and al ...(more)

I was happy to see PSU pull out another win.  The next 2 games, Wisconsin and Indiana will be very difficult.  It would be nice to see PSU win 1 or 2 games in the conference tourney.  They probably won't go to the NIT, but hopefully they can get some momentum for next season.
