Ohio State hopes to use a fine finish to its 2007-08 season as a springboard for 2008-09.

Snubbed by the NCAA Tournament selection committee, the Buckeyes went on to win the NIT by ripping off five straight wins, including a 92-85 win over Massachusetts in the championship game. In all, Ohio State won seven of its last eight games to finish 24-13.

Ohio State won 24 games despite having only one starter and four players back from a team that lost to Florida in the NCAA final last season. However, the Buckeyes should have plenty of experience going into next season -- point guard Jamar Butler and forward Othello Hunter were their only senior starters.

Center Kosta Koufos had a solid freshman season and came on strong at the end as he was named the NIT's Most Outstanding Player. He averaged 14.5 points and 6.6 rebounds.

Ohio State will also have two starting guards returning next season in sophomore David Lighty and freshman Evan Turner. Lighty averaged 9.0 points and Turner scored 8.1 per game.

Freshman guard Jon Diebler began the season in the starting lineup before going into a shooting slump but bounced back to average 6.0 points. He, too, will add depth in the backcourt.

It looks like an almost certainty that OSU Hoops will lose a scholarship due to not meeting the required "Academic Progress Rate" score.  Essentially, Greg Oden piped the program by leaving early and not finishing up his classes last year.  If Koufos decides to jet too, the situation won't get any better.

While it's nice to get top level players, these " ...(more)

The way the announcers were talking last night it's almost a forgone conclusion that Koufos is one and done.  I really hope he sticks around for one more year because this team could be very good with him.  Without him, they may be looking at a chance to defend their NIT crown.....

Now I bet I know what you're thinking... (Wait a minute.  Thinking requires too much work for Suckeye fans).  Where did he come up with #66?  Well, I will explain it to you S-L-O-W-L-Y so even a Suckeye fan can understand.

There were 65 teams in the NCAA tournament.  You weren't good enough to make it.  Therefore the best you could do was #66.  And ...(more)

Hey guys, I'm trying to set up a sim league starting next season, where a simulator plays out the game and gives you realistic scores and stuff, and your Buckeyes are still available! If you are interested or have any questions feel free to e-mail me at dosegorillaz@aim.com. ...(more)

So what are peoples thoughts on this game?  I predict OSU by 8 in a tight match-up.  OSU could really propel themselves into next years season with a win tonight.  UMass really could use this win to help show that the A-10 is a force that has to be dealt with.  Really this game is huge for both programs.  If OSU keeps up what they have been doing so far in the NIT, then th ...(more)

Jamar Butler was the MVP for the Portsmith Invitational, a all senior tournament.  Othello Hunter was on the All-Tourney Team.  Jamar averaged 14 points and didn't turn the ball over in the 3 games he played.  His team also won the tournament.
