Rams report: Getting inside
Psychologically, there is a major difference between entering the offseason with a long losing streak hanging over your program and entering the offseason after an upset victory in the conference tournament. After going 0-for-January and 0-for-February, Colorado State snapped a school-record 17-game slide with a 68-63 victory over Wyoming in the Mountain West play-in game. The win didn't exactly salvage the season -- the Rams lost the next day to BYU -- but it did remind a team loaded with young players and its first-year head coach of what it feels like to be on the sunny side of a final score. "We never gave up on each other," junior guard Marcus Walker told the Denver Post. "We believed in one another that we'd get a win eventually." The Rams, who went 0-16 during the conference season, had come close to breaking the streak several times. They lost by one point to San Diego State, by two points to TCU and Air Force, and by three points to UNLV. "We got tired of losing and down the stretch, when Wyoming came at us, we just said, 'Nope, nope. We've done this enough. We're going to break the mold,'" Rams head coach Tim Miles said. "Finally it felt like we believed we were going to win." Copyright (C) 2008 The Sports Xchange. All Rights Reserved. | ||||||||||||
