Fighting Camels report: Getting inside
Campbell took a step backward in 2007-08, dropping four spots below the preseason predictions of a sixth-place finish in the Atlantic Sun coaches and media polls. The Fighting Camels ended the season with an eight-game losing streak and finished below one Division I newbie (Florida Gulf Coast) and tied with another (USC Upstate) in the final league standings. After setting a school record with 12 wins at Carter Gym last season, they posted a losing record (7-8) in the facility's farewell campaign. Campbell did reach double-digits in the win column for the third consecutive season, a streak that started after a disastrous 2-25 season (0-18 Atlantic Sun) in 2004-05. The short-handed Camels lost freshman guard Cole Dewey to a shoulder injury before the season started. Senior guard Ruell Pringle left the team after two games for personal reasons and was later arrested in connection with a string of campus burglaries. Junior forward Eddie Brown was kicked off the team in December for rules violations. Defense was a liability. In conference play, Campbell ranked 10th in the Atlantic Sun in steals (7.1 per game), ninth in scoring defense (74.7 points per game) and field-goal percentage defense (44.4 percent), and eighth in 3-point defense (35.1 percent).
