Worn-down Curry can't get Wildcats past Elite Eight

DETROIT -- Stephen Curry had the ball in his hands as the final seconds ticked down.

The Kansas Jayhawks refused to let the star of the tournament beat them.

Curry, doubled-teamed off screens at the top of the key, dished to Jason Richards with a chance to win the game Sunday.

Richardson missed a long 3-pointer with a second left, leaving 10th-seeded Davidson just short of pulling off one of the most stunning upsets in NCAA history.

Kansas 59, Davidson 57.

Curry made the final basket, an NBA-range 3-pointer, with 55 seconds left and finished with 25 points to earn the Most Outstanding Player award for the Midwest Regional.

His streak of 30-point games in the tournament was snapped, but his legend only grew because he was still able to score against four different Jayhawks determined to stop him.

Top-seeded Kansas, though, made him put up a lot of shots to nearly double the total of any other player in the Midwest Regional finals.

He was 9-of-25 -- 4-of-16 on 3-pointers -- and made all three of his free throws.

With his first 3-pointer, he broke an NCAA single-season record -- surpassing the 158 Butler's Darrin Fitzgerald made during the 1986-87 season.

The son of former NBA player Dell Curry was just the fourth player to score at least 30 points in his first four NCAA tournament games and he quickly became the face of college basketball's popular event.

Davidson had a great run in the turny.
