Psycho-T's J delivers W for Final Four-bound UNC

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Tyler Hansbrough is supposed to beat you with a dunk.

Or a layup.

Or a power move to the basket resulting in a dunk or a layup.

Any of the above is acceptable; we've seen that plenty of times, like Road House on TBS. But what Hansbrough isn't supposed to do is beat you with a jump shot. That's totally out of character. Which is why Louisville coach Rick Pitino found himself spinning in the final two minutes, turning his back to the court before mumbling what everybody inside the Charlotte Bobcats Arena must've been thinking.

Un-f---ing-believable

North Carolina is headed to San Antonio.

That's what Saturday night's 83-73 victory over Louisville means.

The Tar Heels won their fourth game of this NCAA tournament by double digits and advanced to the 17th Final Four in school history. They'll now play the winner of Sunday's Kansas-Davidson game next Saturday in the Alamodome, where they'll be just two victories away from their fifth national title.

Credit Hansbrough as the reason.

Specifically, that killer jump shot of his.

The first came with 2½ minutes left, a dagger that gave North Carolina a 73-66 advantage. It was huge. But the Cards were still in it. They just needed to match. But Earl Clark turned it over on the subsequent possession and Hansbrough ended up with the ball again. And with the shot clock winding down, the All-American pump-faked Clark from outside the arc, took one dribble left, got one-foot inside the 3-point line and launched a jumper over Louisville's David Padgett that fell through the net with 95 seconds remaining and left Pitino mumbling expletives.

"Tyler Hansbrough made two shots that you prayed they were going to take, and it shows you what an All-American he is to make those shots because they were both challenging," Pitino said. "I was following the flight of the ball; he couldn't even see the basket. But that's what an All-American does -- makes those shots. He's a heckuva basketball player."

On that, we can all agree.

I know it's unlikely, but can you imagine if all the Tar Heels come back next year?  We'd need Tyler, Ty, and Wayne to say first off.  Yes, we'd lose Quentin Thomas(a decent contributor), and Surry Wood (hasn't contributed).  Then we gain Larry Drew, a 4-star guard who would take Thomas' place, Ed Davis who is just another Thompson-Hansbrough type, and Tyler Zeller who is a 6'10 big ...(more)

Hansbrough simply carried UNC on his back and refused to be denied. With Carolina's season on the line against a very good Louisville team (that was the strongest #3 seed in the tournament by a laughable margin and as strong as any #2 seed) Hansbrough took over the game.

If anybody (like Mike Freeman) could possibly have any doubt over who the best player in college basketball ...(more)

Tyler Hansbrough is the Player of the Year.  CBS Sports (Parrish) picked the wrong guy, and the proof was right there on the TV for all to see.  The other guy is a helluva player, more talented than Hansbrough for sure, but talent alone isn't enough.  Hansbrough has been through the wars for three years, and that experience shows.  He understands team basketball (could i ...(more)

Parrish, you said it perfectly.  The crowd did help UNC, but was in no way the reason they won.  The crowd can cheer a team all they want, but that doesn't make the team make over 53% of its shots.  Would it have been a different game if they played outside of NC...sure, but I don't think a change of venue would effect the outcome.

UNC is just playing good bas

I have nothing against UNC, but being the #1 seed overall and earning, yes EARNING the right to play near home is an advantage.  With UNC having a favorable region, if they didnt make it to the  final 4 it would be an embarassment.  I give credit to Louisville for battling back in that game and playing hard.  Hansbrough made some big jumpers down the stretch and is showing c ...(more)
