PGA CHAMPIONSHIP ON CBS RATINGS NOTES

Since 2000, Sunday's final-round rating for the PGA Championship has averaged a full rating point higher (+19%) than it did during the 1990's (6.3 vs. 5.3). The three highest-rated final rounds of the PGA Championship in the past 25 years have occurred since 2000 -- 7.0/16 (2006), 7.5/18 (2002) and 8.8/21 (2000).

2006

An estimated 33.1 million viewers (Persons 2+) watched all-or-part of CBS's two days of PGA Championship coverage in 2006 as Tiger Woods won his third PGA Championship and 12th career major overall. Last year's 33.1 million viewers was +10% higher than the three day total in 2005 (30.0 million) and the highest number of viewers to watch all-or-part of CBS's PGA Championship coverage since 40.8 million in 2002.

2006's final round earned a 7.0/16 household rating/share and was the third best rating for the final round of the PGA Championship in 27 years when Jack Nicklaus won the event in 1980. Last year's 7.0/16 trails only 2002's 7.5/18 and 2000's 8.8/21 (Woods second PGA Championship win). 2006's final round was seen in all-or-part by an estimated 26.7 million viewers, +9% higher than the Sunday and Monday two day total in 2005 (24.5 million) and was the highest number of viewers to watch all-or-part of CBS's PGA Championship final-round coverage since 30.0 million in 2002.

2005

With Phil Mickelson winning his second major title, third and final-round coverage in 2005 was seen in all-or-part by an estimated 30.0 million viewers. 2005's 30.0 million viewers was +4% higher than 2004 (28.9 million) and +1% higher than 2003's 29.7 million and the highest since 2002's 40.8 million.

2005's final round, which concluded on Monday morning due to a rain delay late on Sunday, was seen in all-or-part by an estimated 24.5 million viewers. 2005's 24.5 million viewers was +11% higher than 2004 (22.0 million) and +6% higher than 2003's 23.1 million and was the most watched final round since 30.0 million in 2002.

2004 & 2003

Third and final-round coverage of the 2004 PGA Championship was seen in all-or-part by 28.9 million viewers. Sunday's final round was seen by an estimated 22.0 million viewers.

Third and final-round coverage of the 2003 PGA Championship was seen in all-or-part by 29.7 million viewers. Sunday's final round was seen by an estimated 23.1 million viewers.

2002

40.8 million viewers watched all-or-part of CBS's third and final-round coverage in 2002 making it the second most-watched PGA Championship of all time, trailing only 2000's 46.0 million viewers.

An estimated 30.0 million viewers watched all-or-part of the 2002 final round of the PGA Championship. It was the second most-watched PGA Championship final round of all time.

The final round in which Rich Beem held off a late charge by Tiger Woods delivered a 7.5/18 household rating/share and tied with 1980 (7.5/21) as the second highest rating for a PGA Championship final round since a 7.8/22 in 1978 when John Mahaffey beat Tom Watson and Jerry Pate in a playoff.

2001

Third and final-round coverage of the 2001 PGA Championship was seen in all-or-part by an estimated 34.6 million viewers, making it the third most-watched PGA in the past ten years. Sunday's final round (with Tiger Woods winning his second consecutive PGA Championship) was seen by an estimated 38.5 million viewers, and was the most-watched final round of all time.

Sunday's final round in 2000 delivered an 8.8/21, making it the second highest-rated final round of all time. The highest was a 12.1/32 (on ABC) when Jack Nicklaus defeated Billy Casper in 1971.

The primetime over-run of 2000's final round (7-7:48pm) delivered a 15.1 household rating/30 share. The final round over-run would have ranked as the #2 rated primetime program for the week, trailing only CBS's Survivor (17.9/32).

* One rating point equals one percent of the nation's television homes that are tuned in during an average minute of a broadcast. The 2006-2007 U.S. TV household number is 111,400,000. Share is the percentage of the television homes in use that are tuned in to the broadcast.
