NFL PLAYERS’ INSPIRATIONAL STORIES OF COMMITMENT TO TEAM & COMMUNITY HIGHLIGHTED ON “NFL PLAYERS PRESENTS THE JB AWARDS” SATURDAY, JULY 28 FROM 2-3 PM ET ON CBS
JB Award recipients were nominated by their teammates for their commitment to achieve excellence off the field through building better communities and stronger families
July 17, 2007 – WASHINGTON, DC - On July 28th from 2-3 pm ET, CBS will air the “NFL PLAYERS Presents the JB Awards,” an uplifting television special that offers exclusive in-depth interviews with the JB Award recipients honored this past April at the NFL Players Gala in Washington, D.C. The annual Gala pays tribute to some of the NFL’s biggest heroes for their off the field achievements in the community while also benefiting Special Olympics D.C. For the fourth consecutive year, the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) and PLAYERS INC, the marketing and licensing arm of the NFLPA, have partnered with James Brown, host of CBS Sports’ “THE NFL TODAY,” to create this one-hour television show.
Inspirational stories highlighted in the program include personal accounts from the following JB Award recipients: Indianapolis Colts Head Coach Tony Dungy (JB Award for Perseverance); former St. Louis Rams running back Marshall Faulk (JB Award for National Service); New York Jets quarterback Chad Pennington (JB Award); Miami Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor (JB Award); Former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Everson Walls (JB Award for Compassion); and Denver Broncos safety John Lynch, who received a JB Award as well as the NFL Players Association’s most prestigious honor – the Byron “Whizzer” White Award. Scott Fujita, Michael Lewis and Deuce McAllister are also featured accepting the JB Award for Community Dedication on behalf of all the players on the New Orleans Saints roster.
Ten JB Award winners were personally selected from a field of 32 players by James Brown after each NFL team nominated a player at the end of the season for his commitment to achieve excellence off the field through building better communities and stronger families.
From these ten players, a distinguished panel of judges selected the Byron “Whizzer” White Award winner. Byron Whizzer White was a former NFL player, a Rhodes Scholar, and a humanitarian, and this award is presented to the NFL player who best personifies the spirit of the late Supreme Court Justice.
Brown also presented a select number of special JB Awards to recognize the personal accomplishments of others around the NFL.
